What cheeses me off

Trouble these days is that it’s almost completely out of your ISP’s hands. They’ll compensate you of course, but they simply don’t own/manage the infrastructure anymore, so they’re as much a victim of NBN Co’s action (or lack thereof) as you are in your capacity as the customer.

My Telstra modem running off the NBN has a mobile data dongle that kicks in if the NBN drops out. A business service.

And re coffee - add ~ $0.70 for a decaf (my staple after 10am).

Best coffee in Nth America - the Wild Flour Bakery in Banff Wild Flour Bakery Aussie ski bum baristas, usually.

Same here (Telstra Smart Modem Gen 3 on a residential service). I hope the mobile data speeds offered to business customers is better than the residential equivalent. It's ok in a pinch, but you wouldn't want to rely on it long term. That being said, I've found Telstra to be quite good at applying complimentary bonus data to your mobile plan in such circumstances so that you can hot spot.
 
I tethered to my mobile phone noting the the 5G backup service in those modems is no faster than data on ones phone and the 5G tower is within line of sight of my kitchen. But when the whole area has no NBN and everyone is using failover or tethering to their phone the network gets hammered and performance doesn't cut it.

Those back-up modems are more for when its just a problem for a handful of premises not 1000's of homes and businesses sharing an exchange.

WCMO now is I tried to make a QF Hotels booking (something I was in the middle doing last night when the internet went down) and with only 4 hours left until bonus points ends it errored out processing payment.

There is no way to search for a QF hotels reservation via booking reference (you have to rely o it showing in your my bookings page which it doesnt) to try and pay again and of course customer service ended at 5:30.

I dont want to end up with a duplicate booking as is a non refundable rate; but if its only processed tomorrow I wont get the bonus points which means I would have been better off booking direct.

I think A-pole’s legal dept may well have a pretty sound grasp of these legal requirements. It’s not hard to ever get reasonable discounts in 20% range on Apple products from suppliers other than Apple direct - you just need wait a month or 2 until initial stupid demand dicipates a bit.

Try to buy an iPad or laptop from any retailer and see how much competition is tolerated. I am locked into apple devices and have rarely been able to buy at any price other than that available from apple. I constantly look widely. If you have any methods to access reduced prices let us know.

So what about Dyson, Miele, Gaggenau, Mercedes… and I could go on. Many just use retail agents for inc HN, Myer etc who then refer to original supplier fo the sale so no RPM applies. Law is an cough.

And when you find a supplier other than Apple offering a discount on said product you quickly compare that price to Officeworks who WILL beat prices for identical stock by 5% provided they have it in store and you trot along to see them armed with your 10% off Gift Cards and pay with them - then you hold goods intact until your next o/s flt and then claim GST back under TRS - or not - pay full Retail if that turns your crank 👍

Don’t confuse businesses with charities - businesses are lawfully permitted to make profits - don’t like their practices then don’t buy from them - it’s your money - spend it wisely 👍

Kept getting "0 rooms available", then "oops try again" messages all weekend, desktop and App.
Eventually, 10.30pm last night managed to do my two bookings - frustrating for sure.

Is it worth calling?

I've now driven a Chery.

I'm still trying to understand how a Chery is Mitsubishi ASX or similar?

I struggled to get into car. Seat is low but at 5'9" my head almost hits the roof of the interior.

Still $75 for 2 days is worth it. Uber to/from mum and dads would have been $80-$100 and I got free use of a car.

Pleasantly surprised with Simba Car Hire.

Not getting old. That’s just poor etiquette on behalf of the parents. I know kids can be tough to manage at times, but that doesn’t mean everyone else needs to suffer.
 
What gets my goat is the past-tense, bureaucratic way that airlines treat missing bags.

Air France flt from Portugal to Paris, my bag doesn’t make connection from an earlier flt. I know it, checkin confirms it and crew onboard announce last rites.. I am travelling back to Aust after an onight at CDG, so there’s actually time for my bag to be sent to Paris and couriered to the airport hotel. Onboard crew make a report, but I suspect that doesnt go anywhere until after our flt lands in Paris. So that’s the first gripe - no action even when we know there’s a problem.

So I go to AF lost luggage on arrvl Paris, fill in a form, talk to the staff, and suggest they ‘could’ get my bag on several other flts that I hv researched: TAP and some LCC to Paris the same evening. Oh no, we don’t work with them say AF, we will put it on our own flt. But you only have one per day from Porto, and that doesn’t arrv til tomw eve. By that time I’m long gone on SQ to Sin and eventually home to Tas. Well that’s how we work sir.. what a long and expensive process..

So I wake up to the same clothes as yday, get checked in for SQ 335 and get a mssg that my bag is on its way to Paris. No time given, so who knows what ‘on its way’ means..

Anyway enough of a rant, my satay has just arrvd.

Just an update - bag went missing 20th, I got home to Hobart 23 Oct and bag made it back Wed, 30th. Airtag showed it sitting at CDG for most of a week, despite AFrance giving me flight nos and dates for its repatriation. Yes there grounds for EU 261 compensation but who has the time or energy..

It definitely applies to apple. I’m pretty sure they tightly controlled their prices about a decade or so ago here, and then got hit with some sort of legal issue around this iirc.
Since then it’s been pretty easy to find regular discounts on the rrp, which most certainly weren’t a thing on the iPhone until about the 6 or so.
