What I ate today - the food thread

So Hellyers Restaurant at Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village had a overnight fire. So sad for everyone.

Today dinner was Peppers Cradle Mountain Highlands restaurant.

Mushroom mousse Thai thingies. Nice but I would like to try with basil

Tonight we went next door to the Marriott Mayfair to a little Japanese restaurant. Shilo Shilo which is a udon restaurant. A bit of a problem with Mrsdrron being left handed and it is the arm in a sling so chopsticks out of the question.
So I shad the warm mushroom udon whilst Mrsdrron had the dashi marinated eggplant and tempura prawns and veggies. We also had deep fried sweet prawns which were not quite as expected.
Mrsdrron had a yuzu sofa and I a Sapporo beer.

Apart from the fried prawns the food was good. Al up $A 45 so quite good value.

Pics of some of the dishes from an Indian in Blackman's Bay. Restricted menu due to the restaurant also having staff and a stall at the Tassie Taste - but still excellent.

Paneer, daal; mushroom pakoras; lamb samosa; seekh kebab. Several other nice dishes but no pics unfortunately.

Back to Indian food for breakfast today. But the 2 on the left are my favourites.

I think the staff went full on *formal naming convention* and called the dish "Chicken Butter" rather than "Butter Chicken". It's like how pax name is printed on the boarding pass 🤣 🤣 "We shall serve Chicken" pauses for effect, looks around the room "Butter" 🤣

I went to the Fyshwick Markets for the very first time yesterday. My coworker told me about this amazing kebab place at Fyshwick Markets. I had the falafel wrap and OMG! was it amazing ... the bread to falafel to salad to sauce ratio was simply great! I enjoyed it so much that I forgot to take a pic. This Falafel wrap might become our regular Friday lunch. Will post a pic next time!

I was going to suggest you try the Banh Mi from the bakery, but then I remembered that you are a vegetarian.
I’ll give the falafel a go next time we are there. It’s a pity the markets are only open Wednesday to Sunday.

Let me check if they do a vego only or a Tofu with veggies option, I can try that then ...

I don't remember the name of the shop. There are supposedly many kebab shops in the market. The one I tried was near the fruit market and the shop that sells cooking utensils, woks etc ... Also this Kebab place keeps a tasting display with bread & dips you can try ...

Yep, know the one you mean, I think they are the only kebab place there, I also like the newish pizza place and the seafood place on the Fyshwick side, the other seafood place does good cooked seafood, although not helpful to you.
In winter you can’t beat pho from the bakery, however I’m guessing they use a chicken based broth.
In India many years ago, I loved the vegie cutlets available at railway stations!

Oh YES!!!! They are a delicacy! 😍😍 My parents rarely bought us snacks from railway stations. Mum used to work for Indian Railways and she had friends who worked in the railway canteens. So buying any railway food, unless absolutely-I'm-going-to-die-now-without-food emergency, we never got to taste the cutlets. However, after I started travelling for Uni and work, I tried on these snacks every now and then :)

If you get a chance, try the "onion samosa" served in trains in India - they are delish. They used to INR 1each when I was in school (early 2000s) and last time when I was in India in 2022, they were 6 pieces for INR 25! But worth it

The Boat House Armada Outdoor Bar. Amazing atmosphere, loved the vego food they had.

Started with Sonoma sourdough with butter. Loved the bread! Always a huge fan of sourdough.
