What I ate today - the food thread

A very non descript dish in SING CBD Hawker Centre

This is Ipoh Kai See Hor Fun SGD$5.60
Flat noodles soup with chicken and prawn
Originally from the town of Ipoh Malaysia

Iconic for those who know.
And authentic, packed with flavour
Add fresh chilli is you want to increase your sweat pore production in equatorial Singapore🤣

There were pieces of sliced chicken and prawns on top - I had mixed them into the soup before thinking to take a pic

Falafel Fridays are becoming a thing for my colleague and I 😎

Almost every Friday we find ourselves driving to Fyshwick markets for a falafel.

This time we went for a falafel platter - what an amazing dish! I had mine with chilli sauce and an extra serving of jalapeños and ground chilli oil 😀

Edit : Oh and did I say - the bread was fresh out of the oven and it was still steaming as it hit the table. For the very first time, I saw bread that was letting out steam

#WCMO is the use of single use plastic cups and plastic seals for those bubble drinks (like on the pho table pic above)

Im told they are biodegradable and/or can be use again?

Finally got a Vietnamese lunch after 2 weeks at home. Our usual Nyugen Brothers place has been closed for renovations. Meant to open today but didn’t. Went to their Sunshine Plaza store which used to be take away only. Today a lot of the dishes from the original restaurant.

So lemongrass beef vermicelli salad for Mrsdrron and spicy beef salad for me.

This is Bellamy’s by Logan Brown at NZ Parliament House in WLG. Second visit and can’t recommend it enough. Lovely menu and wine list and excellent value. Some photos are me being messy - not the plating. We did the execellent tour of parliament house before lunch.

Godiva chocolates at CBR Civic.

Tried the passion fruit and pink pepper truffle - really good. The little yellow ones in the pic.

At the entrance of the store there is a chocolate dispenser tower - like the ones for cereal in a buffet - twist and the chocolate balls drop … tried the hazelnut balls, really good too!

I enjoy a good Caesar salad and find it a reliable and moderately priced go to for room service whenever I'm staying in or after a late snack. Had a few on my recent travels. Always some variation between cities (and hotels)!

Auckland. No anchovies but very generous serve of prosciutto. Under $20.

IMG_4290.jpg
Amsterdam. Plenty of anchovies and nice chicken. Great croutons. Like everything in Amsterdam, pricey.

IMG_4434.jpg
Singapore. Best anchovies.

Brisbane. Came with smoked salmon which was nice if a little dominant.

Don't normally have let alone pay for breaky when home, but had reason to be near Giddy Up cafe, a very unassuming place in the middle of residential Sandy Bay. A poor pic but glad I at least took this one, as once I started I didn't stop. A BLT with smoked cheese and a mildly spiced hollandaise sauce. In a croissant rather than sourdough per my request. Belgian choc mocha as well.

I'll return.

Civic Asian Noodle House. My favourite haunt in CBR CBD is now back. Yayy!!

They were shutdown for over 6 months due to storm damage and there were delays in insurance payout, delays in landlord fixing ceiling, floors etc … anyways they opened their doors once again today and yours faithfully was there, promptly, for dinner. I skipped my afternoon tea so that I was ready to tuck in at dinner 😂

The owner was very happy to see me. The chef came out of the kitchen and we had a chat for a wee bit. The whole family was there today - almost everyone came by my table for a chat and thanked me for being a loyal customer …The owner and some of the male members of the family later joined me and had their dinner… such a heartwarming dinner :)

Had my usual vegan fried rice. Chilli oil and hot water at the table without being asked. Glad they remembered how I like my meals. The meal, excellent as always. Can’t fault. I ordered a box to go for tomorrows lunch too :)

As they are a family business, the chef hasn’t changed and you could tell that in the taste, ingredients and presentation of the meal.

As today was a special day, I ordered a half-carafe of their house red … was good. But I couldn’t finish the half-carafe.

There are obviously work to be done in the restaurant - ambience wise. The walls are freshly painted, but bare - they used to have a lot of Thai style artwork, pictures of the current and previous king etc, which is not done yet … their eftpos machine isn’t working yet, so it was PayID or bank account transfer. Did PayID.

All in all a very good dinner and I’m glad the restaurant is back in business 😀

The Dickson Asian Noodle House was my go to for years after I moved to Canberra. Nothing was over $10.
Only eaten from Civic a few times (mainly delivery) but agree it is very good.

So much nicer to have a restaurant cooked bread. Large, fluffy not dense and hints of tomatoes, basil, black olives and olive oil on the top. Lip smacking start and almost asked my neighbour for his (which remained uneaten)

I chose the salmon entree. Popped with colour and flavour. Delicate, tangy and delicious. Would have that again in a heartbeat

I got a photo of my (across the table) seat mates duck before he even knew it was on his table - he really should pay more attention. He was more interested in the Pinot Noir.

Should have taken photo without all the greenery. Slight char and perfectly cooked. Tasted like it had been poached as it retained a lot of juices. Sucked the bones dry (quietly of course, as I was sitting directly in front of the presenters)

My seat mate across the table had a coughing fit during his meal, that speaker calmly stopped the presentation and enquired about his health. He should try to eat, drink and talk at the same time 😂

I love that restaurant. Haven't been there for so long

Back to the Tziki Bar Forest Glen. Definitely one of our new favourites. We go with share plates. I was a bit slow with the first 3. BBQ Lamb ribs, Babaganoush and octopus.

But I was ready for our second round. Another plate of the ribs and a plate of lemon potatoes.IMG_4062.jpeg

Definitely a place to go on the Coast.
