Was this served cold? I had a similar dish at Ashfield, Sydney in a restaurant that is no longer in business, thanks to CoVID.

Today was back to a vietnamese lunch. the Maroochydore branch of Nguyen Brothers has been closed for renovation but their Sunshine Plaza branch which was previously mainly takeaway is now doing a lot of the larger dishes. As a bonus it is open both Saturday and Sunday for lunch and dinner. So today it was back there today. I had the salt and pepper squid and mrsdrron as usual her lemongrass beef vermicelli salad. both very good. Only down side is it is not licenced so no wine.

We ate too much! Been looking forward to coming back here for over 12 months, BayLeaf Restaurant in the Bay Village complex in Cairns.
Balinese food, Sate and Sambal Kucang, mixed satays.
Ayam Sayur, poached chicken, peanuts, mango, beans, corriander, mint and cocunut dressing, (but no photo.).
Tum Bebek, steamed minced duck steamed in banana leaf.
Be Celeng Base Manis, pork in sweet soy sauce.
No room for anything else….. :(

Moo Moo steakhouse Broadbeach. Started with an amusee bouche.
IMG_4093.jpeg

We selected a bottle of wine that seemed appropriate for the day we had had.
IMG_4094.jpeg

Then I had Bang Bang duck. Wasn’t expecting what I was served. Basically pulled duck on a spicy salad.

IMG_4099.jpeg

The duck meat was then piled on the salad. Very good. But no photo. Mrsdrron started with the carpaccio which was excellent.
IMG_4100.jpeg

She then had the scallops with a large side of mushrooms which were great.

IMG_4102.jpeg

I had the Waygu rump. Was advised to have it medium rare so as to assure that the fat was rendered. It was close enough to rare for me and was excellent.
IMG_4103.jpeg

Thoroughly recommended.

Tonight’s meal. Otawari House Mermaid Beach. We shared a few dishes plus a bottle of Sav Blanc.
We had kingfish carpaccio, waygu tataki, tempura prawns and chicken karaage.

The food tasted good but there were 2 problems. The dishes were served with chilli garnish and a chilli ponzu sauce. Now Mrsdrron doesn’t do chilli and as well although Japan is in Asia it really doesn’t have a taste for chilli. That is definitely not authentic.
The other problem is that the acoustics are woeful. So if you can put up with that then go for the food but ask for no chilli including the sauce.
