What I ate today - the food thread

Roast potatoes. Just roast potatoes. I got sidetracked by work and they were cooked before I got anything else together so just ate a bowl of them with a little slice of cafe de Paris butter on them.
Be very careful with bicarb. A touch too much and you end up with soapy potatoes or onions etc.

Personally, as an old organic chemist, I prefer the traditional methods. Precook potatoes for 7-10 mins in salty water then roast in duck fat.

Let us know how you go with the bread - often thought about trying that. I found one with mayo and my friend made it but said all they could taste was the mayo
I'm going to say good but I need to figure out if I kneeded it too long it not enough as it didn't rise much. I would say taste was similar to sour dough. Yummy and easy enough for me to try again

Hubby made me an egg and bacon muffin with Beerenberg Sth Aussie tomato and cracked pepper relish. He was scuba diving this morning so his breakie is a big breakfast with sausages, hash browns ect.

Edit. Hubbys breakie, all that fresh air & salt water makes you hungry

We had some people over for a Indian meal lat night.

Curry - about medium hot.

Food1.jpg

Tandoori chicken - my wife made the marinade from scratch

Food4.jpg

Dhal - as non-photogenic as usual. This was the only course that I cooked.

Food2.jpg

Mixed vegetables with Turmeric, coconut & Mustard Seed. There was also a Bean Omelette.

Food3.jpg

Side Dishes - Tomato & Onion Sambal plus Raita

Food6.jpg

Pappadums

Food5.jpg

Then dessert of Sooji (Semolina) with Milk, Coconut Milk, Saffron, Cardamon, Eggs, Cranberries, Sultanas and Almonds. Topped with more Almonds, Cranberries and Sultanas and served with Pistachio Biscotti and Mandarin segments.

Food7.jpg

For a bit extra.

Purely by coincidence, my daughter-in-law dropped this off to us yesterday. She made it all herself and then wrapped up in the box with a bow. The contents are Pandan Chiffon cupcakes topped with Crème fraîche and a strawberry. Plus Pandan Crepes rolled and filled with Palm Sugar and coconut (kueh dadar). The Red grapefruit is from their tree plus an uncut one on the lid. The bigger of the other two fruits is Rambutan and the other is Longan.

It was very nice and the first time we have had people other than family over for a meal since the present turbulent times started. We now have lots of leftovers and have just dropped off some of the curry, dhal, veggies & rice to my daughter.
