What I ate today - the food thread

I have pork ribs in the slow cooker with a BBQ sauce, plan on putting them in the oven for about 10mins when finished to give them a bit of colouring before plating.

Its a cold windy day here on the SUNshine Coast so I pulled the slow cooker out of the pantry today, had some lamb shanks and now in the slow cooker along with garlic, onions, lemon jest and white wine !

NO - it is out of my old spiral note book of family recipes my sister started for me when I got married 49 years ago !

4 lamb shanks / 2 red onions sliced / 2 cloves of the large jumbo garlic sliced thinly/ grated rind of 1 lemon/ juice of half lemon/ 1 glass of dry white wine
In a large slow cooker put a layer of sliced onions, place the lamb shanks on top of the onion, ( you can brown the shanks in a fry pan first if you want - sometime I do - sometime I dont !! ) place the garlic and lemon jest around the shanks, added the juice and wine , cook on high for 1 hour and turn to low for 6 hours.
:)

Thank you, your a gem.

I have finally replaced my broken pasta machine, picked up one in the EOFY sales. So it's more carbs to stave off this cold Adelaide Hills winter. First cab off the rank today was maltagliati with artichokes and parsley in a chicken broth and white wine sauce.

I have a shoulder of lamb in next week's shop so I can slow cook it for hubby.

I picked up a good old-fashioned hefty leg of lamb today and I'll slow cook it in the wood oven on Monday, infused with garlic cloves and covered in olive oil, lemon juice and oregano. Lamb is perfect for this time of year.

I sprinkled the chicken with a French powder soup mix (only powder/no water) and moved it to a pyrex bowl and in the oven for 10mins before plating.

Next time I won't bother with the powder topping, didn't seem to make any difference taste wise but very tender and moist chicken. As I don't have a Red Rooster near us anymore, will do again

Yes, we were both in a lamb coma last night. Cooking a lamb roast in the slow cooker is fantastic. We woofed ours before I thought of taking a photo ! o_O
