What I ate today - the food thread

Lovely walk through the Botanical Gardens, came across a pretty classy looking restaurant.... Jardin Tan.

Don't bother is my recommendation.

More tasty home style cooking in the back streets of the Gion area of Kyoto. 2 tables and 5 stools along the bench, we had the stuffed pork/tofu, fried chicken, fish cakes and fried rice, with the obligatory Kirin beer. they did have some French, South African wine by the glass, 650 Yen, not too shabby, although I settled for the beer.

Love this place, clean, no smoking in a lot of public areas, lot's of public toilets that are clean and have paper, great transport system, my only gripe would be that when you do want to 'tip', it's considered extremely impolite and frowned upon.

I find the Grounds unenjoyable on a weekend when it is overrun with people and pressure to vacate your table. Weekdays are marginally better!

The Potting Shed next door is a nice though. Last time I was there they had a campfire going out the front in a wheelbarrow and you could toast marshmallows while you waited for a table.

When offered the menu did you just ask for one of everything?
I was with family, of course
two burgers, one big breakkie and a crab omelette (I nicked off some chips from the burger people)

im not a big fan of crowds either. Was my first time today. We were lucky to get a table without too much wait (I guess people just eat and go)

A bit of delicious Italian in Lisbon at Il Giardinetto

Part way through Yum Cha at Dragon Palace coughburn Gateway south of Perth. The slightly orange looking Egg Tarts were made with coconut milk and had a very different taste to the "normal" Portuguese Egg Tarts just above them.

As nice as the LAX FL is, IMO the S&P squid isn't on the same level as SYD/MEL
