What I ate today - the food thread

Lunch at Supalove, Tiger Lane, CBR Civic.

Nice ambience. The whole of Tiger Lane is a concept with all eateries inside the lane being Asian. The ambience is set out to mimic, in my limited understanding, a busy way street in Japan or Thailand. It’s sort of open space - the tables are laid out spaciously. Each of the eateries have their own little space and there’s a common spaces as well.

Standard Thai fare - the menu had a separate section for vegos, which I liked.

I had the vegan stir fry veggies and cashew served alongside white rice. Ordered a side of roti and a Thai Milk Tea.

The main dish itself was 6/10 for me. I liked it, but will order something else next time. I was hoping for more chilli, more flavour and more punch, which seemed to be missing. I did not order a side of chilli because I wanted to taste the dish as-is and later on add chilli. I was also misguided by the words “Thai chilli paste” in the menu but it was nowhere near to what I was expecting. However, somehow forgot to order fresh chilli (the tea was rather distracting - more on this below)

The roti was good, but felt it might have come from a packet somewhere and was thrown on the grill prior to service. The roti was good, but me thinks it was store bought rather than made in store.

The milk tea is usually served cold, but I asked if it possible to make it hot. This tea was the highlight of the meal.

What. An. Amazing. Concoction. Of. Wonderful. Flavours. Bam! Loved the tea ☕️ it was made with black tea, condensed milk. The condensed milk had blended well with the black tea and I think it was frothed moments before service. The pillow-y froth, dense sweetness from the condensed milk and the mild, yet pronounced bite of the black tea kept me going back sip after sip after sip. I was in heaven! I had to restrict myself from drinking any more tea because I wanted to keep the tea lasting until after the last morsel of food and finish with the tea and let the taste linger a bit longer! I will definitely go back for the tea, if not for anything else :)

For reasons not mentioned and not asked the tea was served in a takeaway coffee cup. No idea why. Nevertheless, the taste of the tea made up for any of the minor flaws I observed.

Another thing in this store was the water cup. I was expecting a water glass, but was told that the aluminium cup, which I thought was for rice, was indeed the cup to drink water from. When I sat at the table and looked at the aluminium cup inverted into the plate, I thought it was for rice 🤣

I've been so SG for three times (total of 15 days) and had all my mains (only mains I ever had was laksa and choo/dock rice) and snacks (mainly shaved ice) from shopping malls, ToastBox, and the chains. Oh and MrCoconut. Is this pathetic? And all the laksa I had all were from Toastbox. And the SQ lounge. And Toastbox. And the Marhabara lounge. But I guess my schedule wouldn't digress from the average Singaporean businessmen if they were to eat out
🤣🤣

I have had plenty of food from the shopping malls and the kaya toast set from Toastbox.

#FeelingLikeHomerSimpson at Brooklyn donuts, CBR Civic.

I’m not a fan of donuts - I have had a few donuts from 7-11 and Krispy Kreme and honestly, the donuts did not call to me … I mean, if someone offered a donut, I wouldn’t say no, but I don’t rush to buy one, when walking past a donut store.
Enter, Brooklyn donuts! I have walked past this store a few times and did not feel like having a donut. Not today …

Walking past and stopped enquire what donuts they have. A lovely staff member told me about the filled donuts (donuts with a filling) and the normal doughy ones.

I was recommended to have either the Tim-Tam white chocolate or the Kinder Beuno ones. I’m normally a Tim-tam person, but today tried the kinder beuno and boy did I enjoy it!

The Beuno ones were filled with something called “White Nutella”. I enquired what white Nutella meant and the staff member didn’t know. She did say that she liked it to the regular Nutella. And she ain’t wrong!

Loved. Every. Bite. Of. The. Donut 🍩

As it has been a busy foodie weekend with lunch at Movida Aqui, dinner at Miss Mi Saturday ( lamb ribs ✔️) today called for a lazy Sunday lunch with family at Pier 35 Bar and Grill Port Melbourne - chose the shared tapas platter

Calamari, BBQ prawns, Haloumi, Moreton Bay bugs and Chepvi.
Worked for me!
Oops, edit : Saganaki not Haloumi 🫣

If you ever tour Tasmania you must look up the Rustic bakery at Cressy. They make those sort of donuts. But don't go on a weekend or in school holidays as they sell out very early.
They also have a van and go to various markets or festivals in Northern Tasmania. I couldn't get enough of them.

Thanks for the tip @drron - will check this place when I go to LST.

They sometimes at the Harvest market in Launceston on Saturday mornings. worth going to even if the weren't there. Can also be at the street food market every third Sunday at the Town Hall Square.
Here is their website with pictures of their donuts.

Their vanilla slice is legendary. Best I have had.
And the country side around cressy is picturesque and not far from there to the highland lakes.

IMG_5154.jpegBlackbutt bakery. Sticky date muffin, jam and cream donut and a gay time slice (like the ice cream). Donut and slice were good, muffin OK. Friends had a pie and said it was delicious. I think they’re known more for the pies

Goomeri Bakery. Lamb and rosemary pie. OK but not brilliant. Known more for their pastries I think. Mrs Scash had the raspberry custard danish and said it was sensational.

IMG_5206.jpeg
Dusty Hill Winery (Pendergast Tavern). Bangers and mash. Seriously good. Others had the seafood chowder and chargrilled veggie salad. All were delicious. Would definitely recommend this place. We stayed the night in a cottage and it was amazing (I will do a trip report later) .

Warning - possible grossness ahead.

Wonderful dinner in a resort in Japan. Many courses ( will all be shown in my current TR) but I wanted to show the ‘seafood starter’ ( It’s a fixed menu & all brought to your table.).

Nice selection of fresh seafood. See the little shrimp there on the right of the right hand plate?

It was very fresh; had its tail carapace removed, but its legs were still moving 😳

It was nice, with just a touch of soy sauce.
