What I ate today - the food thread

Cellar Door, Christchurch - venison tartare and a Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir - best wine bar I have ever been too. They have 12 different wine flights - all decent quality, plus specials and top food. Spread the word.IMG_5661.jpeg

This may not fit that well with the spirit of the thread but I discovered today the best use of my new air fryer to date. I bought some "award winning" bacon from a butchers and after 7 minutes at 180°C I had the most delicious bacon of my life.

My cholesterol is going to go through the roof... 🥓 🥓

Tonight we dined on the Darwin Waterfront at Wharf One. We really enjoyed it. We began at 5pm as that is when happy hour started. We got a bottle of a Margaret river Sauvignon blanc at $7 off but with complimentary dips which were more than we figured on.

Hummus ,babaganoush and a sweet potato dip with Rosemary and maple syrup. Very nice.

Then sharing some small plates. Best was rice pickled scallops with a ponzu glaze. Excellent.

Definitely worth a visit.

My recent posts have been to call out really good meals.

Sadly this one was a shocker and proof that 5 stars on Google and or TripAdvisor is meaningless.

Cucina at Sofitel Bali.

First up, Lasagne

So salty it was basically inedible.

It had no béchamel sauce which I thought was the key to lasagne.

Not a hint of salad.

And a blisteringly hot cast iron pot seems a poor choice for serving a meal to a child.

IMG_3637.jpeg

Next up, Mrs H’s tortellini.

Main size.

Yep, you counted correct, just six pieces.

IMG_3638.jpeg

I selected the Fruit de Mare pizza.

Nothing wrong with it, just really underwhelming.

IMG_3639.jpeg

The only thing going for the place was the pepper grinder.

The waitress was taller, but only by a few centimetres.

And when asked “how is you meal?” we provided polite feedback on the lasagne.

The manager appeared soon after with a make-good for Miss H.

I've been trying keep food very simple this trip to Thailand.

Eggs and alternate spaghetti dishes for breakfast before golf keeps me going until at least 6:00pm for next meal.

Free Food Friday was also spaghetti. Quite tasty.

I love these potatoes. I have not seen them in Australia.

Goes really well with pork. One thing that is noticeable here is the pork does not have a smell like the pork in Australia.

And to keep the non spicy food going. I bring tuna from Australia with me each trip.

Oh and wife found mussels in the local Thursday night market. Delicious with sweet chilli sauce.

Not gourmet food but my stomach has thanked me for it.

Meal on Thursday DRW - SIN SQ252.
Didn't take the menu pictures so unsure of the right names. But this was a red from Rioja which I enjoyed that day and again the following day on SQ12.
