Platinum
Travelling to Jakarta next week, I wondered which was the 'best' beer in Indonesia. Seems Bintang isn't. Anyway, I came across the Lonely Planet link with numerous comments on Tony Wheeler's list of the world's best beers...

http://www.lonelyplanet.com/blog/2011/01/20/where-is-the-best-beer-in-the-world/

I'll look forward to trying Lao Beer if that's available...I expect it, being a product of an ASEAN economy.

Newcastle Brown ale for me,,
Asahi in Japan and when all else fails,, Corona,,

Asahi and Corona with a slice of the obligatory lime. Depending on the mood.

Asahi is dry and Corona is flavoursome.

Bintang is rubbish.

1. San Miguel (Philippines)
2. Asahi (Japan)
3. Tsingtao (China)

:D
Special Note: Must be the original blend from country of origin. (I'm not easily deceived) as many beers are brewed under licence elsewhere nowadays, & there are distinct differences.

Steinlager Pure
Mac's
Waikato Draught
Tui
Monteith's

Coming from a kiwi background, I've seemed to of snivelled out some good beers in my time. The "Steinies" dont give me a dreadful headache later

Corona actually has no flavour, thus requiring the slice of lemon/lime.

20 years ago the story in SoCal was that Corona was brewed next door to a Mexican Waste Water treatment plant.

On Topic: Redback

This is a difficult concept.
perhaps this needs to be narrowed to small local beers/or distinct regional beers at locations and then more manstream mutli-nationals
So Here goes
Small brews - Kona Longboard lager, Maui Pilsner, Alaskan White, Efes, windhoek,
Larger breweries, stella, miller 64 (quite new- best low carb i've tasted), hahn premium, tooheys pils

I try to sample regional brews etc when overseas, as regional food can blend quite well. Some dont like. Usually if out at resturant will stick to the most reasonably priced beer i like, and consider if driving etc.

My favourite depends on my mood, where I am at the time and what is available....

For me - Easy:

G's top 8 - The county code of where brewed, not local copy brewery

1. Crown Lager (AU)
2. Heineken (NL & NZ)
3. Harbin Beer (CN)
4. Stella (Belgium) in 500ml cans
5. Samuel Adams (US)
6. Lion Red (NZ)
7. Budweiser (US) from barrel, i.e. Bud Bar at Atlanta Airport

I can't think of a good beer out of the UK, Germany and Austria have some good beer and Asia can sneak a few goodies in as well IMHO

surprised to see Crown lager here........if you get Fosters on tap in oz, i heard it was really Crown?

how true??

D'oh Duff!

no, it's actually Coopers Clear (& no sediment in the bottom)

Within Australia:
Cascade or Boags. If a light beer - then Cascade Light definately.
Don't mind Corona, seeing there is only one place where it is brewed - is the same around the world.
Overseas:
Heineken is generally my "go to" beer, but love trying new beers.
Within the UK, I'll usually drink Fosters, Stella or Carlesberg.

Oh and I do love the following when in the respective countries:
- Singha, Tiger and Tsing Tao.
