I have just come back from a trip to the USA. Used Uberpool and UberX a lot in Washington and Boston. Was great service and new spotlessly clean cars (including a luxury Merc) every time. Washington Reagan Airport had dozens of people with their Iphones and Samsungs waiting for Uber, despite there being a long line of taxis waiting. I have yet to use Uber in Australia so can't compare service levels here yet.

I was chatting with a colleague to whom I first introduced Uber and he told me he is now an Uber convert after a half dozen or so successful trips. Coincidentally he told me a story about his CC being skimmed and it was suggested by the card company (after reviewing his recent charges) it was most likely by SYD cabbies who they say are known to have card skimmers that look exactly like the real machine. He told the CC co that he'd only recently switched to Uber and their response was "a week too late".

Were does Uber hide what rating has been given to me as a rider?

Since the update around the end of April your rating should be displayed as TomVexille said.

Uber's latest update — announced Wednesday via blog post — makes a rider's rating pop up right under their name in the app.

Otherwise you can try:-

1. Open the Uber app.
2. Choose ‘Help’ from the menu
3. Then ‘Account’
4. Then – about 10 items down – “I’d like to know my rating”

In theory, Uber carries its own insurance, but you claim through your personal insurance first before making a claim on Uber if not covered.

In the ACT, you need to be covered by an insurance company that specifically covers rideshare in order to be registered. I'm with Allianz, and there's a few dollars extra.

Checking the fine print of your insurance is a must - I checked with AAMI (my then-current insurance company) just before starting to drive for Uber; they specifically said that their "comprehensive" policy did not cover me for ride-sharing, and they would refuse any claim if it came to their notice that i was driving for Uber at the time of the accident / incident. I didn't bother asking whether that definition actually required a passenger to be in the car, or whether having the app switched on was sufficient......

I ended up using Allianz too; as SkyRing said, the incremental cost wasn't much, and the insurance becomes partially or wholly tax deductible depending on your circumstances. SGIC were the other option. I'd much rather deal with them than wrangle with Uber in the event of needing to make a claim

I'm driving for Uber while between permanent jobs; it works for me as a source of beer money ;)

I just wish that Uber would sort out some navigation glitches - I've had a couple of problems with their app sending me to the small alleyway at the back of a property rather than to the main road at the front. All sorted with a phone call, but an irritation nevertheless. Then there was the newbie rider who put in an address but must have moved the pin while confirming the ride - I turn up where I'm supposed to be (according to the app), but am > 300 metres from their actual location, and it took 5 minutes and two phone calls to find them. My explanation fell on deaf ears and I got clobbered with a 2-star rating

My rating was 4.88 and on Sunday morning a friend and I took an Uber from Adelaide CBD to the airport.
The driver had a 5-star rating. Car was immaculate and he offered me a bottle of water, which I gratefully accepted as I needed to take a couple of panadol (big night!).
My friend and I talked the whole time. I was in the front, he in the back. Our conversation was mild and just your general run of the mill convo.
I greeted the driver when we got in, thanked him for the water and that's pretty much all that took place until he dropped us off, when I again thanked him for the water, thanked him for the ride and wished him a pleasant day.
I checked my rating half an hour later and it had dropped to 4.84, which indicated that he probably gave me a one or two star rating.
Why? Just why?
I'm starting to lose my faith. The $16 fare was great, but the rating system is a joke.

So in essence, you can get four-star ratings for every trip, which for anything other than Uber, would be a great result, but unless it's five stars, your rating will slide. 50 4-star ratings in a row will see your rating as 4.0, which according to Uber is unacceptable.

Had you taken any recent trips prior to this one? I thought ratings from trips took a few days to appear on your account (to prevent you from knowing who left what rating) - I could be wrong though

I know Uber drivers who give low ratings if the pax is not curbside when the car arrives, especially in areas where there isn't a legal place to stop (ie. CBD). I got hit a couple of times for that and I have been verbally told I shouldn't do that twice.

It is a very one sided system. Uber regularly gives drivers feedback from pax, but never reverse unless the rider is getting kicked off (or warned). I only learned about some of these antics from chatting with drivers.

I go out of my way to do everything right but then get hit with cr@p ratings for stupid reasons like short trips (4-5 km not stupid round the corner stuff). I wonder if the driver would rather sit there with no income if I took a taxi instead?

I am guessing this is mostly the ex-taxi drivers who brought bad attitudes over to Uber.

I think we all need to remember, wrt rider ratings, that we are actually paying for the trip, so poor ratings should be for transgressions not just because the driver didn't get enough servitude or grovelling from the rider. "Rider wasn't curbside" ! please, I'm impressed if half the Uber's I get can even find the pickup point +/- 200m.

Like the guy who parked a full street away, in traffic, in the pouring rain when I was waiting, with luggage and a child, at a clearly marked hotel driveway. He gave me attitude for calling to ask if could come to the actual pickup point, then gave a very low rating, which was reciprocated.

Two weeks prior. Also I was exactly where my pinpoint said it should be at the entrance of the Sebel Playford and he picked us up at the exact correct spot.
Wondering if it was because we ignored him and talked amongst ourselves.
He was actually a really great driver, but I simply couldn't give him 5 stars because of the low rating I gave him. I reciprocated with 4 stars which means his 5 star rating would have gone ever so slightly down. And I felt bad because IMO both driver and passenger deserved 5 stars.

mrsdoc has switched to Uber and registered it on our joint CC.

I'm finding after each ride, that there appears the fare charge and also another charge ($6.00) - and this "other charge" seems to hang on for ages as pending (up to four weeks!).

What is this?

OK, found the part that refers me to the rating under my name, but it seems I don't have a rating. :( Given other AFF comments, they may mark me down as I ask them to back up the driveway a little way so I can quietly make an exit.

Updated the app, and have a score of 4.6. Prob didn't help that I couldn't find the car once when CBR a/port first allowed pick ups, and I caused a major delay.

Do you really care? I was 5, but just checked and I'm 4.94 . I think I'm the ideal pax, but I obviously have unknown flaws (my +1 tells me they're unknown to no one bar me)!

TBH, I couldn't care. If they want a fare, fine ... if not, the cabbies will be happy for it!

Exactly. It's a stupid system
