What's your Uber experience?

OK, but when I check on the app it states : "driver cancelled" .
Yep, and DiDi blame the driver with an "At Fault" cancellation.
This means loss of points.
Drivers don't deliberately jeopardise their account.
It is the way DiDi operate .... drivers are expendable and are not believed.
Thus, when the app cancels the job, and auto message goes to passenger, blaming the driver, so passenger will not blame the DiDi app, and most likely book another car.
DiDi NEVER accept responsibility for anything ....

Well, I could see the driver driving to me:

But then I got the message "looking for driver" when they were about 2 blocks away (Perth CBD).

I couldn't get another DiDi that responded. So I went to Uber.

So I went to Uber.

I was a bit upset with my DiDi experience. I was already running a bit late.

My Uber driver told me that DiDi drivers can get ride direction information when close to the pick-up. I.e. N,S,E,W sort of thing.

I have no idea if that's true.

But, according to my Uber driver, they can then cancel if the trip is not in the direction they wish to go.

No.
All ride share platforms disparage each other.

I hate Uber ( for what they did to me ), so I have nothing good to say about them ....

But I am an 'expert' on DiDi issues ...

All DiDi drivers are subject to the most punitive penalties in the industry ...

Drivers are highly unlikely to cancel their own job, as there is ALWAYS a penalty attached.

It is DiDi themselves, who's dysfunctional app algorithm is triggered by a combination of factors ...

Time, distance, and even traffic conditions can cause a cancellation, that DiDi will blame the driver for.

If the driver is stuck in traffic ... it's the driver's fault. If the app gave the job to the driver, who was 15 mins. away, the app 'can' cancel at the 8 min. point .... and blame the driver.

If the app gave driver a job that was 'behind' the car, and on a One-Way road, the app will cancel the job, when the driver hasn't turned left or right after 2 mins. even though the driver is stuck in heavy traffic. Eg. capital city CBD roads in peak hours.

So, in general, DiDi use their Drivers as scapegoats, and LIE to passengers, that the driver has cancelled ... whereas, they have not.

The reason for this ? I can only think, that DiDi consider, they are actually assisting the passenger to get a car quicker, by cancelling the one 'stuck in traffic', so the passenger can rebook another ... ( who may also be stuck in traffic !! )

You had a better experience than I did in Durban. The driver picked us up and dropped us off OK but didn't end the ride until a destination further away making the ride more expensive.
When I reported this, Uber gave me a full refund so it ended up being a free ride.
Free sounds much cheaper than my experience :p

Just got a Didi to Adelaide airport. Nice young man but very ordinary driver and was playing with his phone while driving until I told him to stop

Holding phone, or whilst on a cradle ?

You can operate phone on a cradle, whilst in motion ....

Suspect that varies state by state. In WA you can but limited to what you can do. Ie, answer a call is ok. Respond to a text, not so much.
Myth and legend there ...

The nature of all Ride Share platforms, is that there are up to four or five different tabs to press, when accepting a new job.

The first tab is ACCEPT. Must be done in less than five seconds, or job defaults to next closest driver ( if not accepted, first driver gets a negative penalty of between 2 & 8 demerit points ).

Next, driver needs to close off other platforms - to avoid double or triple jobs showing.

Then, there is opening Navigation app ( Google Maps, WAZE or platform internal )

Driver may have to cancel previous Navigation, if not already closed from previous job.

So, there is more than just a 'split second' of time and effort involved, and it just wouldn't work, if driver had to 'pull over to side of road' to accept a job. Just think of the potential for a crash !! Not to mention 'parking restrictions' like NO STOPPING !!

So, a ride share must be able to operate their phone from a cradle, otherwise the industry could not work most of the time ...

I'm not disputing what a driver may or may not need to do. None of that changes the fact it is illegal in WA.

And yet in Sydney Didi usually more expensive than Uber, if you can even get one.

Taxi from PER to City Hotel was $80 vs $37 for a Uber XL, but if I didnt take the taxi (or Didi) there is no experience to post about.

I don't think so.
Just a thought ...
If you have two or more ride share apps on your phone ... including Uber ...

I would not be surprised, if Uber have the technology to undermine any other offer. Uber desperately want your business.
They are losing pax to DiDi.

I regularly use Didi rather than Uber in Adelaide and in the last six months Didi has been cheaper. Also did a few trips in Brisbane recently and again Didi was cheaper. I tend to compare both and Ola but I always have trouble with Ola
