What's your Uber experience?

Well I had Uber last week and my sister had Didi (no Uber installed) and the wait time for a Didi was 15 mins longer and it was $5 more. I dont think Didi have enough drivers in inner Sydney compared with Uber, Ola seems to have died here too.

Of course YMMV may vary on any day in any given city.

However this thread is about Uber experience (implies you actually use them), perhaps the Didi fans should create a Didi thread?

I didnt take the taxi (or Didi) there is no experience to post about.
And yet you are posting? Interesting concept - bored? Trying to get your post count up?

And for the record so I can continue posting here we did take a $10 Uber ride from home to Beaumaris Motorised Yacht Club on Thu nt - the Ette arranged that 👍

I regularly use Didi rather than Uber in Adelaide and in the last six months Didi has been cheaper. Also did a few trips in Brisbane recently and again Didi was cheaper. I tend to compare both and Ola but I always have trouble with Ola
Ola is almost gone ... in Sydney at least.
I used to do well, as a Driver with Ola, but in past year, they have 'fallen off the cliff'.

At the moment, I haven't been able to log in to their driver platform for THREE weeks now. They claim 'technical' issues etc.
They actually admitted, that "thousands" of drivers can't log in at this time ....
Wouldn't be surprised, if they depart Australia in the next twelve months !!

So, are you promoting DiDi here, by pointing out, the Uber are always more expensive ?

Uber have been ripping off passengers for years !!

yep the $20 per hour drivers make before expenses is just great

I tried to use Uber in Queenstown, NZ recently but I have been blocked and need to download and verify the app, yet I was on the app.... Raised a Help request and 4 days later got a copy and paste reply to check I had a network connection, download and install again etc.

We just used the water tax instead as we were staying at the Hilton

Uber is beyond a joke

Uber Experiences? So comparing their prices to another ride share providers prices is not an Uber experience?
So agree! I'd actually rather this thread be changed to a Rideshare thread than having to troll across two separate threads for latest views on which to use. And for me at least that comparative analysis is one of the main reasons I read this thread, Uber don't exist in isolation.

It's been live there for a year or longer
Correct.

At last count there are 6
Some of them actually are licensed to do bookings outside of Uber

Uber snow chains?
They sometimes don't turn on their Uber driver app on but can be contacted via FB as a private booking

During the winter season there is now separate shuttle buses for a fee between Jindy, Thredbo, ski tube and Perisher for less cost and further distance than SkyBus

The risk with using a driver outside of the platform rules ....is that, in the event of an MVA, you are not covered by Insurance. You will be unlikely to get medical expenses etc. from a guy who 'nets' an average of $20. an hour.

No, they are also licensed booking service providers as well not just as an Uber drivers - meaning they can take bookings via phone, email etc. Think limos
There is no such licence. Official "Limos" are registered as 'Hire Cars', with a specific licence.
Dorks with 'HHC' as a rego plate are usually operating outside the rules, and risk heavy penalties by NSW Transport if caught ...
There is only ( in NSW ), a 'Public Passenger Authority Number', which is kept on RMS data base, but not issued to the Driver. There is no physical licence or card.
As far as I am aware, the PTLC as it is known, is only for drivers who are driving for a provider platform, such as Uber et al. It is not an open 'licence' to allow any individual to run their own independent transport business ...

Thus, anybody can 'claim' they are "licenced" .... but they may not be.

I was previously referring to ride share platform drivers, privately arranging trips 'offline'.
The platform will not only close your account, if detected, but they will deny liability for the passenger.
There remains of course, the NSW Green Slip coverage ... if you trust them, and can stand going through a Court experience ....

Yep.
You need to read it CAREFULLY ... and understand the definitions.
The criteria to be a 'booking service provider' is greater than a Driver.

Some Drivers won't qualify.

My earlier point was, there is NO physical licence. It is not like a taxi, where the Driver must display a permit. Ride Share drivers have nothing, except a downloadable 'sticker' on the back window. Hardly a 'licence' ....
Any passenger who arranges a booking with a 'private operator', is taking the risk, that the guy is 'authorised' and 'competent' ( to Public transport Driver standard - not just private driver standard ).
There is no method of checking, short of lodging a formal complaint ... there is no 'checking' service online, that can be done in a minute or two.

Pre bookings are a joke at the moment on uber. I'm going back to cabs. 10k from Brisbane city going to the airport. Booked last night for a 6:30a pickup. One driver didn't move when they got the booking for 10 mins. I pinged them "are you coming" and they cancelled. Two other drivers canceled.
About to wake the leader of the opposition for a ride to the airport as a driver took the job and I got to the airport about 15 mins later than planned.

I've previously had no drivers accept the pre booking and uber just say, try later. This was after the booked time.

Be careful if you have tight timelines using pre booked.

Cheers.

So going by your comment anyone who is a hire car driver is basically a risky uninsured private driver moonlighting for $$$ and the only people with proper "qualifications" are taxi drivers?.

Ah no...

Edit: I'm not even referring to rideshare drivers driving "on the side" either. I'm saying they are also authorised BSP

It just doesn't work that way.
Even taxis don't work on future bookings.
Don't be fooled. The Driver gets the 'offer' ( not an order ), to take the trip no closer than 10 mins out. It's pointless going to the effort to book the night before, or whatever ...
If you absolutely need to be somewhere .... order your car ON THE DAY, with plenty of time.
