What's your Uber experience?

don't worry about it. QuickSilver will get you HIS private driver.
Would that be a pre-booked taxi in 4 days time? But wait - how can that be? You can only book a taxi like 10 minutes out can’t you? Not sure that is 100% correct but some rocket scientist up thread declared this to me the case - dunno - maybe he was wrong

You can book a taxi some days out. But will they turn up?

I've tried that many times (ringing the taxi service) pre Uber but they never turn up.

And when I ring up asking if they are coming, invariably they say that the taxi did come and waited but no one came out the meet the taxi even if I'm waiting out the front of the property

Dodgy as F...

FFS, am I not writing in English ?
No. I think you are trying me out ...

Once again ... slowly ... even SLOWER ...

You can book a taxi four days, a week, a month in advance. Yes. Sure.

But here's what I said before ....

THE JOB WILL NOT BE OFFERED TO DRIVERS LESS THAN 10 MINS. BEFORE PICK UP TIME !!

I can't make it any simpler !!

Then book a real taxi - this is / was Jimmys equiv in SYD - I assume number still correct - I will clarify with JimmyIMG_2461.jpegYep this number still correct - Jimmy and Amit work closely together - they refer all inquires to each other

It's probably not worth getting so worked up about being right on the internet...

JIMMY OWNS THE TAXI - AMIT OWNS THE TAXI - I cannot make it any simpler - oh wait - maybe they allocate the job to themselves 10mins out - nah that would be silly wouldn’t it?

What am I missing here? Couldn’t both be right? Booking through a taxi conpany, the booking is offered to drivers until 10mins before pickup, but book via a specific driver or network of drivers and they block you in for a specific time? Isn’t that part of the reason these networks exist in the first place?

I would not know - I never book through a taxi company - Jimmy has a swathe of Silver Service taxi owners who work together - Amit same in SYD - you book they or one of their mates turn up - simple

Look, think what you want.

Let's say, 'once upon-a-time' ... in Sydney ...
If you had say 'RSL Taxis' on the door, and you had an RSL radio in your cab, and you got jobs off the radio ....
And one day, you arranged your own fare with whoever ....

And somehow, RSL Cabs found out ...
Next week, you didn't have RSL Taxi on your door anymore.

Because that's how most of the Jimmy's start out ... being kicked off the platform ...

Years ago I (and our office) used to use one of these “Jimmy’s”. Pre internet. We used them because they were reliable ( would turn up on time if you booked them a day or two advance), were always clean and well presented as was the car (not smelly)) but they always used their meter. As far as the taxi company goes, what is the difference from them doing this and a street hire?

It's a bit useless to offer jobs at T-10min.

I'm at least 20min from the nearest taxi stand in any direction.

After booking no calls from the taxi company to say driver on way, or sorry no drivers available. As per upthread they lie and invariably say that the driver did come but no one was there.

In summary ...

There are various opinions, and experiences.

Each person will base an opinion on their own personal experience ...

Which doesn't make 'the rule, or the exception'.

Lucky we aren't talking medical research ... with samples of just two or three supporters of 'theory A', versus perhaps a single proposer of 'theory B' ...

After successfully using Uber in USA and Europe, I finally used Uber to pick us home from SYD International yesterday. Fare was $130 which is not too much discount than taxis. But the Uber car was available in 3 mins and I was walking out of the terminal towards the rideshare stand. It was only a Toyota Camry but it was fine for us.

This was in contrast to my previous taxi experience for the same route 6 months ago, when the taxi driver put up Maxi Night fares when it was only 4 people travelling at day time, and tried to charge me $230 for the ride. I argued with him and dragged the price down to $160. Then he made racist comments to us. I took photos and reported him to TfNSW and then the taxi company contacted me, and I provided them with details. They said they kicked him off the taxi network.

It is terrible experience like this in taxis that turned me towards to Uber. A few years ago when I was travelling for work constantly, I did have dedicated taxi driver numbers and they were very good. But I didn’t try to contact them for my recent trips since I haven’t give them businesses as I changed jobs 5 years ago and was no longer travelling regularly, before Covid.

4.5yrs ago I started the thread ‘Taxis for Grown Ups’ - til this day members are still complaining about service from taxis - you can’t help those who won’t help themselves - book a real taxi and don’t whinge

There are no rideshares in Denmark
When we were there we got the taxi from the Train Station to he Airbnb. We also got the driver's phone number for the return trip

There are of course taxi apps that allow you to book and pay for vehicle and track it as it heads towards you, such as Dantaxi.
