What's your Uber experience?

To me, I think, the guy wasn't an accredited driver at all.

Did you see an Uber sticker on back window ?
Uber stick on the windscreen, Uber app on his phone that wouldn’t work. Yes it cud hv been a screenshot, no I didn’t lose anything as I got my Uber ride at the price Uber had indicated but it ended up a scam because the driver gets cash in hand and avoids the 22% that Uber wud hv ticket punched from his fare..

I think it's 27.5% and I think it's a scam.
I would have paid him (if in NSW) the fare less:

10% GST
Booking fee of $0.85
NSW govt passenger service levy $1.10
$0.10 per km CTP
$0.03 per km fuel surcharge
27.5% Uber fee

The Sydney Airport fee is charged to their e-Tag

😳

And then paid these fees to the relevant body yourself, just to be sure that NOBODY else gets scammed out of their bit ...right???

Has anyone else noticed drivers increasingly using their phones while driving? It seems to be incredibly common now for drivers to have an earpiece in their right ear, and to be on group phone calls. Most talk softly, if at all, but I personally find it incredibly uncomfortable. I've also had a number of drivers messaging while driving, and flicking between apps - yes the phone is in a cradle, but totally unacceptable while driving commercially. Anecdotally, both of these seem more common in Sydney than in Melbourne.

I use Uber a couple of times a year only so have no real knowledge of the workings.

Does Uber have any sort of subscription service? I have had a few unexplained bills for $9.99 that don't make sense so I am attempting to sus out whether it's an Uber issue or a PayPal issue.

Thoughts please?

Yes Uber does have a subscription service, it gets you discount off rides and food delivery. Worthwhile if you use it a lot but pointless for a casual user.

When Uber rewards were discontinued, top tier diamind users got 6 months free and I think there was also another promo with a 3 months free if you linked a Mastercard.

Did you perhaps take the freebie but then forget to cancel?

Thanks for the info.

To answer your question, I have no idea and can’t see any subscription on my account. I can’t see any discounts when used.

I had a Sikh taxi driver in Sydney once that mumbled into a headpiece the whole trip. I thought it more dangerous than anything. I don't think the person on the other end got in a word as there was just no break in his mumbling. He was already on the call at pick up and only stopped to take my direction which was plugged into a phone app map. Plus the car was an old Falcon that had no suspension. That's when my Uber experience started.

I hope you rated them appropriately!

I notice latest app update has an improvement with airport bookings, you have to now select terminal and airline.

That’s been around for a while but progressively rolling out across different airports / airlines etc. i was seeing most US airports appearing with that sort of option at the start of the year.

They’re probably pinching Google’s work that does the same if you search for directions to some airports (you get a Terminal list and/or Airline list).

Well wasn't asked on 31st July for SYD but was asked this week for both SYD and BNE. So quite new in Aus.

To check uber one subscription look under my account. It used to be 10% off rides now only 5% uber cash back.

Pretty sure the iOS version has been doing that for SYD for a couple months. I do recall getting it heading off at the end of August.

Certainly a far cry from early days where the default Uber location for SYD was literally the crossover point of the east west runway and main runway! You had to manually type T1/2/3 to force it to somewhere achievable….

Arrived at CNS yesterday, went to the Uber pick up area and tried to book a car home.

After several attempts, prices ranged from $57.47 and $104.29 for the 15 minute trip which usually costs around $24. Others were experiencing similar cost surprises.

I decided to walk to the taxi rank and got a local cab for $29.00.

Thats a great example of the advantage of cabs - dont be blind to the 'universal' benefits of Uber.
