My reference to Japan was tongue in cheek suggesting that Madagascar has a local version of Kanamara Matsuri. OT now travel is be back on the cards I am getting back in shape and will again convince Mrs and MisM to go back to Japan which to be honest is not very difficult so I can take part in the Saidaiji Eyo Hadaka Matsuri. It is on the bucket list :p:)

It is 'the naked man festival' my translation may have been wrong. From memory when I originally came across this there may be more than one festival but the one I am interested involves parading through the streets, running around a loop which involves freezing water and a scrum to be the last man standing holding the prize. It is held in Feb each year and often in sub zero temperatures, I believe westerns are allowed to participate but you may need to apply in advance, I cannot remember.
