Why masks in airports?

What's the big deal about wearing a mask anyway when in close proximity to others?
We are still wearing them in museums etc in the UK. Mainly because Covid positive people don't have to isolate. But it's very much a choice thing. Likely they aren't even testing. But no one talks about Covid here. Freedom.

Masks reqd all public transport Spain even in taxis - so easy to forget to take masks with you

I'd feel much safer if everyone was wearing masks outside their home.

It's really not that difficult. I know I'm claustrophobic and most masks make me uncomfortable but I still wear masks.

Sitting in a minibus the other day with 6 others on a 45 minute trip. The driver and I were the only people wearing mask. The other 6 UK tourists think endemic means no more risk. Not very clever.

So when do we stop with the useless things?

Not this lifetime. They're only useless if you think they're useless.

Note quite a few Asians wearing masks in public well before Covid. I'm sure they think the masks are useless.

P.S. Someone sneezes your way. Is the catch of catching something the same with and without mask?

I think we’ve pretty categorically proven that nannas home made masks or single use surgical masks used for the 100th time are nothing more than window dressing.

But to confirm, you’re happy to continue like this for eternity? And you were advocating for masks in all settings 3 years ago in response to seasonal influenza? Genuine question as I’ve lost track.

Agree re the PS. Someone sneezing into a mask reduces the sphere of aerosols.

No I wasn't but now think it's a great idea. We've learned quite a few things since Covid.

3 years ago someone going to work with flu on a Monday morning coughing and sneezing and not a word was said. By Friday 15 people sick with influenza.

Please don't tell me it's unfortunate that someone caught influenza from a selfish and inconsiderate person. Influenza may not be serious for majority but somewhere between 250,000-600,000 people a year die from influenza and many have serious consequences. Any avoidable death is a win.

Thankfully now if you are coughing and sneezing at work you are immediately sent home. That's a huge win even if Covid achieved nothing else.

Chicken pox almost killed me at 46 years of age. I really respect parents that choose not to vaccinate their kids. Actually I don't as they have no justification.

If I didn't care too much before Covid I certainly care a lot more now.

P.S. I have not had Covid. It has nothing to do with luck. It's because I've taken appropriate steps to protect myself. I have a 5 year old gorgeous daughter and I want to see her mature into a beautiful adult.

No, sorry, but it’s luck. The time I managed to get it was when I was being beyond cautious (ie masks etc) because I needed a negative PCR.

Living in a society where we are constantly wearing pointless masks (and they are) to appease a few who have fallen for extreme hysteria is hardly a society at all.

The best thing that can happen to the covid-crazies is for them to catch it, and realise it’s not worth all the drama. That’s why we got vaccinated, remember?

No. My work colleague is triple vaxxed. Young, fit, healthy. Mother of two toddlers. Spent a week in hospital, two days touch and go.

No. It is NOT mild.

Yes, it IS mild. Data does not lie. You’re one anecdote is not proof of this and I doubt it’s even entirely true.

The data says one million Americans died with covid in the space of just two years.

That's not mild by any definition.

The human race managed to survive a very long time without masks. We can do it again.
There's a difference between the other times and now. People are definitely not smarter.

My mum tells me 60 years ago doctors and nurses used to visit the villages in Greece and everyone gathered in the town centre to get vaccinated.

Some seem to think we're smarter today and it's good to refuse vaccinations. I mean some of the conspiracy theories are so dumb and beyond belief.

As we’ve discussed so many times, you’re stuck in 2020. We’re now fully vaccinated. At least half of Australians have “recovered” from this virus. Most without even showing a symptom. We have a nationwide mortality rate of 0.1% (and realistically it’s a lot lower). There cannot be a clearer definition of mild.

For your own mental health, when are you going to move on?

It's not just one anecdote. It's many anecdotes that people refuse to acknowledge and just use their own experiences.

I know quite a few who have died with Covid. I know quite a few that have serious respitory issues. I know quite a few that were out of action for months and some still suffering now.

We should ignore these just so we dance again on overcrowded dance floors and eat out in overcrowded restaurants and go on overcrowded cruises and visit overcrowded night clubs and watch fireworks displays like were in a sardine can.

Can anyone calculate 1% of 7.9 billion? Don't look at at Australia, look at the world as a whole. We should the families of those that died the loss of their loved one was an unfortunate and it doesn't really matter because 99% survive.
