Why masks in airports?

It's not just one anecdote. It's many anecdotes that people refuse to acknowledge and just use their own experiences.

I know quite a few who have died with Covid. I know quite a few that have serious respitory issues. I know quite a few that were out of action for months and some still suffering now.

We should ignore these just so we dance again on overcrowded dance floors and eat out in overcrowded restaurants and go on overcrowded cruises and visit overcrowded night clubs and watch fireworks displays like were in a sardine can.

Can anyone calculate 1% of 7.9 billion? Don't look at at Australia, look at the world as a whole. We should the families of those that died the loss of their loved one was an unfortunate and it doesn't really matter because 99% survive.

Again, half the population at least have been infected. Less than 8000 deaths. This would not have raised an eyebrow 3 years ago (especially given they’ve basically all occurred in those beyond life expectancy).

We spend the rest of our lives locked inside and hide under the doona? Cover ourselves with pointless masks and grab as many cans of beans as possible at coles then run back and hide again?

Part of life is death. 2020 is well behind us. We are now as good as fully vaccinated. 0.1% mortality rate. Why did we get vaccinated if we’re going to hide forever.

Masks are nothing more than hysterical window dressing. They were mandated on planes in an attempt to control the dictator like border closures by state premiers. It’s now a total waste of time. If anyone believes otherwise then they’re the conspiracy theorists.

But that’s the thing… it’s not being locked inside and hiding under a doona.

It’s a simply putting on a mask when in high density settings where people don’t have a choice to participate or not… public transport and hospitals for example.

it’s as easy as!

Which… does…. nothing 🙄

When does it end? You actually want to be wearing a pointless piece of plastic on your face for eternity?

Died WITH Covid is meaningless - far less have died OF Covid. Certainly way less than other diseases (obesity, heart disease, etc).

I'd suggest Covid hysteria (masks, lock-downs, marginalisation of the un-vaxxed, vax injuries) has caused more deaths than Covid itself.

CDC, WHO, Aussie health authorities…all say masks to play a part.
All political propaganda - and they change their mind like the wind.

And equally there’s plenty of evidence to state the other. GB said it best when she summarized “masks are a reminder to people that this isn’t over”.

You’re not answering my question. When does it end? I have absolutely zero issues with you cowering behind a mask (as you once said was the goal), but you’re now pushing it onto others because you’re not prepared to let go.

What is the logic in wearing masks nowhere except aeroplanes? There is none, pure and simple.

Worth repeating.

I honestly feel like I’m speaking to a brick wall sometimes. At least it’s down to about 3 or 4 who can’t let go (and no doubt didn’t have the slightest suffering over the last two years; common theme here in Annandale amongst the covid-lovers). I feel for the mental health of some, it can’t be a nice way to live.

It's high density situations, especially where people don't have a choice whether to engage. People can choose to avoid bars or restaurants. They can't avoid public transport or airport/planes. They can choose to go to supermarkets when it's less crowded. You can't choose the time you want to go to a hospital.

Not really down to just three or four people... the Australian public overwhelmingly chose against the 'economics before lives' approach that was being promoted by the Cth government at the time.

How many times am I going to ask the same question. When does it end?

And the Australian public has well and truly moved on. Maybe something to do with that vaccination we all got?

Total rubbish. Maybe in your warped fantasy land.

But on most public transport, the doors frequently open, and some (such as many Melbourne trams) have small windows (above the main windows) that are often opened by passengers. Yet in Victoria at a cinema I can go in mask free, and if the showing is popular, sit next to many others for 90 minutes plus.

Where's the evidence that anyone using public transport or the airlines has caught 'the virus' and died from it, not merely 'with it'?

The median age of death from COVID-19 was originally 86 in Oz: last I checked, it had reduced to 85. Both are above typical male life expectancy in Oz, and similar to typical female life expectancy.

Mental health has declined, small business closures skyrocketed, elective surgery cancellations imposed by various Premiers have arguably been a major cause of what is now a rising death rate (people couldn't have that important test, so sadly their life has been shortened by a variable amount depending on the condition from which they suffer).

Close to 50000 per annum in Oz pass away from various cancers. Do we see a daily panic about this?

Yet with 'the virus' we've had far fewer deaths than 50000 attributed to 'it' since February/March 2020 and many may well have had comorbdities.

Masks are also dehumanishing.

Some nations have seen the light, and as the departing/departed Melbourne Airport CEO gent said, he doesn't really see the point of masks in airports.

As a data point, our “darkest days” during covid occurred over the past Xmas/NY period, when masks were mandatory in virtually all settings. Clearly didn’t work very well.

It ends when it ends.

No one is asking people in nightclubs or bars or the cinema to wear masks... all voluntary outings and you can assume the risk if you want to.

In places where people don't have a choice to accept the risk, masks are pretty simple and easy.

Again, when is that? I’d say a few months ago when we were all vaccinated. Definitely now given over half the population have recovered.

The pandemic is still putting people in hospital.

Amd maybe we don’t need to have a look at how we manage the flu each year. If we can cut that right down through some simple steps like mask that might be a good idea.

There are still people who don’t like to wear seatbelts. But saying that the road toll is right down doesn’t mean we can stop wearing seat belts.

As to melburnian1’s comment about cancer… there is an equal public awareness campaign about that… daily health messages against smoking, or encouraging bowel cancer screening are just two examples. There are dozens of major fundraising and awareness events… dry July for example.

I'm sad that you think dying is meaningless.

That's someone's family. Someone's friend.

If a person has lived with comorbidities for 50 years and gets Covid and dies it was Covid that killed them not their comorbidities.

You’ve said this several times now. How is using public transport not a choice? Of course it is. No one is forced to use a bus or go to the airport to catch a plane.

So your answer is never? Just come out with it if that’s the case. Saves a lot of backwards and forwards.

I believe said poster just went on a holiday to the United States. Somehow that was not a choice I guess.

Nobody is saying that dying is “meaningless”. But we’re all going to die. 500 people a day leave this earth in Australia. Why is it that they can suffer from any number of illnesses when they go and it’s not an issue, but having a positive covid test is?

My view is that there is no greater risk from travelling in a train or plane than there is from visiting the local (and often very busy) supermarket. Some members have been very sick from a Flu virus - we know it is the flu because in NSW when you go for a PCR test they also test for Flu and RSV. Now we have been in and out of their house, taken one of the boys for the day etc to give the parents a break. But we have not caught the flu.
We didn't wear masks to keep us safe from their flu, we had the flu shot!

Vaccinations work, and the 3rd covid vax we had meant that when we caught covid in the UK late march, it was a mild illness. Now that we have vaccination available, I consider it is time to move on. We are off to the UK again in 8 weeks, and had our 4th Covid shot this week in preparation - this is what we see as the only really effective protection.
