Will Qantas have a March 2023 double status credit promotion?

Hey thought I'd ask here. During DSC do reward flights booked with PC+ also get DSC?

Or 30-50% discount on QFF redemption for International? They just had 30% off domestic, of which I partook of two return flights to Melbourne for my wife and daughter next month to watch '& Juliet'.

Noting they would have to almost have the discount second half of 2023 to find decent amount of QFF international redemptions anyway.

If you’re following the logic of the RBA
Theres no need for discounts. So businesses will stop offering discounts and everyone has to pay “fool” price

Well given it was March last year, wont write it off as not happening until April fools.

The thing is that QF has created the expectation of doing an annual DSC, so if they don’t do one some simply won’t book some trips with them that they otherwise would have.
They won't care.

Expectation is all with the consumers.

And, if they decide to not do a promo then that implies they have healthy forward bookings, so if a few status chasers don't rook some trips with them they probably wouldn't mind too much.

and tbh if someone doesn't book a trip with QF because of the lack of DSC, then that implies it is basically a status run - and while QF don't care what the trip is for and will shut up and take our money, it's also a VERY SMALL percentage of individuals who will actually do such things.

if people are holding back on trips they want to take, but can afford to wait in the hope of a promo, well that's discretionary spend so not something QF might rely on.

And if someone books away from QF because they want to go but can't wait anymore (hmm sounds like a bodily fuinction) well... QF probably won't miss that potential revenue and pax may benefit from better price, schedule and/or service.

There may also be a consideration to the amount of discretionary income people have with inflation, interest rates and cost of living expenses biting. That may imply more sale fares if capacity exists than stimulating demand via a DSC.

Remember, these promotions are not done for us but for their bottom line (even if those of us who play the game can personally advantage significantly).

imo

What about Flex fares that are 3% discounted on account of being a QBR level 1 member? Do they earn DSC if booked in the booking window?
Typically any fare that usually earns status credits will get the double status credits (subject to other rules, such as operated/marketed by qf etc)

(But read the T+Cs if and when such a promotion turns up)

I'd argue it the other way.

If they make it too predictable, people will hold off booking fares until the DSC promotion.

Make it variable and intermittent and people will book as required, with any DSC giving a surge of sales. The problem with expectation of DSC is it prevents bookings outside the period.

Qantas publishes its half-year results next Thursday so perhaps it will be a repeat of in August when it announced at its full-year results status extensions and $50 vouchers for frequent flyers?

They already held a pretty reasonably priced international sale earlier this month no doubt to showcase good "forward bookings" to investors so who knows what is possible.

I don't expect further status extensions at this point. At some point QF has got to expect people to travel to retain status.

While true, Qantas will have a much better picture of how it is looking than we do. Next week we will find out if they feel they need to do anything.

Exactly. No business does.

They will do it if they need to.

Period.

It’s literally that simple.
That's patently untrue, just look at Qantas. In the rare instances where they do make a mistake, they own up to it and put resources aside to fix it, be it the QF being unable to handle chock-a-block travel in the months after restrictions were lifted and the long customer support queues to the issues a small minority of QFF members face with their award bookings or the state of some of their domestic lounges at outstations like SYD. They will make it right!

Does that get me my lifetime Chairperson's Lounge membership Uncle Alan? 😂
