Hi all,

HNY. Do you think Qantas will offer double status credits in 2024?
If so, do you believe it will be in March, like last year?

Thanks, Vickie

Why would Qantas have a double SC promo when they can fill their planes easily, and the lounges are already overflowing.

Because like clockwork they give one out almost every year around feb/mar for quite a long time now. Yes past history doesn't mean future guarantee.

They clearly still value this promotional activity otherwise we wouldn't have been gifted SC during the sorry campaign. Would've just been points which frankly lots of people would've been ok with.

Could also want to boost Q1 numbers as well. This is afterall likely the weakest booking season in the whole year.

yeah I thought the same thing last year and was totally wrong. lol.

As @elanshin noted, it's bee like clockwork more or less for years so there's a reasonably high chance Feb/Mar wills see one. Also demand has slowed a bit, cost of living etc, so QF have more reason than last year to stimulate demand with a promo.

anyway let's watch this or three other threads grow to double digit pages until it drops.. as usual :D

Qantas is obligated to. Given all the controversy they've gotten themselves into selling ghost flights, expiring COVID credits, sky high fares and poor customer service to name but a few outstanding black-eyes against the Roo. Heck they've already handed out bonus status credits last year, and have provided this promotion now for several years running. Why on earth would Qantas discontinue this?

I disagree that QF are "obligated" to do anything tbh.

While a clear "charm offensive" has gone on for the past few months - specially in the lead up to Christmas - and very obviously in response to the brand destroying problems of the past few years - I don't think DSC is really something that is going to be part of an effort at brand repair. Why? First, they've done this for quite some time - usually to stimulate demand. Second, the only people who give two hoots about DSC's are not the casual flyer, but those with status, or interested enough to go higher - so either invested in the ecosystem already (and probably less likely to leave it with the lure of easier status). The customers chasing status are already tied in to one degree or another. While some of course may have jumped ship over the problems and brand damage, the "status handcuffs" probably mean it's not that many - specially those at the higher status levels (ie: Gold+).

So I think any DSC promo (if/when it happens) is far less about playing nice with the public to get them back on side and more about probably revenue, demand stimulation and yes, getting those status handcuffs a little tighter on those willing to play the game.

I think they will offer DSC again this year. I plan on using it to retain status and to keep on progressing well towards LTG.
Yes, I suspect there’ll be something. Maybe even one or more targeted promos to keep peeps on their toes.

I‘m good for WP requal by end of July but will consider options for a head start next member year. If there’s nothing practical nor attractive, I’ll give it a wide berth - as I’ve done in previous years.

Hoping for some juicy deals as part of the ongoing charm offensive, but prepared to be disappointed. Either way, will hopefully be able to take advantage of it.

I'll probably hold out booking my May positioning flight to CGK (start of my OWA) until after this either appears, or it's April.

Probably should plot my known trips in the upcoming anniversary to figure out if I need a SC run.

Because some of their forward loads on international flights look terrible
What’s the basis for that? Fares are still quite high v Precovid (as are most carriers - just because they can).

Fare buckets for sale and empty business class seat maps*
* Yes, seat maps don't tell the full story as not all passengers get a seating allocation at the time of booking. But a 787 flight departing in a week with J9 C9 D9 I9 and only a handful of seats allocated in the J cabin is a fair indication of a pretty light flight.

DSC promos rarely occur with sale promos, so people partaking are often paying top dollar for their chosen routes.

I think international demand is starting to drop off which is no surprise given the wider cost of living crisis, and you'd think the initial pent up demand from covid has probably finished its initial surge given everyone has had 18+ months to travel. We've seen this with the QF changes to US services later this year.

I don't think they'll drop the fares, they'll manage by reducing capacity first, and things like DSC might help to fill it out - if things are still bad in the months ahead we'll see some good sales.

It is light but late Jan for outbound is the start of the annual travel slump which will last until about Easter. It's a good time to travel if you can.
