According to reports, coronavirus vaccine is entering its final phase of testing and very soon we will have millions of coronavirus vaccine to be rolled out, hopefully from September.

By then, should a coronavirus vaccine is available, will you vaccinate it?

Personally speaking, as a 30 year old young person, I will not vaccinate myself with Coronavirus, because:

1. It is just a small flu for young people, we won't die;
2. The vaccine is rushed and I cannot guarantee if I vaccinate myself, I will be immune to Coronavirus and not get killed by the vaccine;
3. The coronavirus vaccine is just a step to reopen our borders so that we can travel overseas again.

I am not anti-vaxier, however I only think that Coronavirus vaccine is just a political ticket for politicians to explain to the public that they can now open the international borders again and ease off travel bubbles.

What do you think?

and only gave up because the money ran out, and the lack of the virus in the 'wild' meant that testing the vaccine was extremely slow.
I was just making the point that there was a lot of effort put into getting a vaccine in reply to a post that thought there wasn't.The search was continued as it was felt there would be another corona virus epidemic and a SARS vaccine might be a good starting point having already gone through all the animal studies and the human trials for safety issues.

I didn't realise there were quie so many candidates. Mind you most are pre-clinical

So we will definitely have a vaccine by next Tuesday. I confidently predict state borders to open by lunchtime, a bubble with NZ by close of business tomorrow and fully open international borders by the end of the weekend.

Sorry, just getting in before CityRail does...

Sometimes, it's nice to have optimism, especially at a time when a lot of people finding this period very uncertain and depressing.

Everyone react differently. I don't understand why people find this isolation depressing. I have WhatsApp smart phone, I don't have to spend 3.5 hours each day for getting into office for no reason, I am loving this lock down; but I don't discount the many negative feelings people have.

Kinda like, you know, we could alway dream, dream of, actually LOVING the meals in international economy 😄 Oh wait ...... 😅

Incase anyone is a podcast addict like me. This is a very good podcast with very smart people.
I don't understand 95% of what they talk about, but still find it a good listen.

The Chinese are doing well with one of their vaccines using old technology.Helps that they can start Phase 3 trials using the Army.But will also being doing the phase 3 studies in Canada.

Other than vaccine, Anti-virals are also under research at the moment which may help to end the pandemic:

This will take time, however if a drug is proven to be effective against COVID-19, perhaps we don't need to wait until a vaccine to reopen our economy then.

Covid manifests itself in many different ways as that is exactly the way the immune system operates. One thing confounding the research it seems is that some treatments work for some manifestations and not for others so the evidence gets muddied by the failures.

We all have forgotten one important vaccine principal. ;) o_O :D

U.S.—Scientists across the nation are racing against time to develop a vaccine against the deadly COVID-19 virus. Despite significant progress, researchers have hit a snag. Sources confirm an effective vaccine is ready to mass produce except for one problem: manufacturers have so far been unable to give it the power to cause autism.

“Like any good vaccine, this one needs to give autism to some kids,” said Phil Mipockets, CEO of a major pharmaceutical firm. “I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night if we put something on the market that was totally safe and didn’t ruin some people’s lives.”

Shouldn't laugh about such a serious topic, but couldn't help myself. 🤣

Don’t laugh this will be on the front page of the Byron Bay Times as fact tomorrow ;)

So by implication Canadians are expendable..... ;)

Well they did have the audacity of restraining a Chinese alleged criminal on a extradition treaty ;) . How dare they! [sarcasm]. Therefore all Canadians are expendable and we can arrest them for no reason when they travel to China.

Though there was this from loyalty lobby today.A fellow flying Canada to Vietnam on CX.By the time he got to HKG the Vietnamese border was closed so he remained in the terminal for 3 months despite him having HKG citizenship.? Canadian as well.

Having a few ex-Hong Kongers as close friends, & given the number of people who have been spirited over the border into the mainland and subsequently "disappeared" or in long term confinement on totally trumped up charges in the last 18 months or so, I am not surprised in the slightest the passenger kept his secret and refused to leave the confines of the transit area.

Surely John Ollia is not so naive to be unaware and other than self aggrandisement would have been more prudent to not advertise the case so widely.

These cases have nothing to do with politics, just some passengers trying their luck, and some airlines and Hong Kong Airport Authority being incompetent. You can listen to the audio news here: Pandemic sets stage for 'The Terminal' at HK airport - RTHK - 2020-06-29

And for that group of Chinese who tried their luck with transiting via Hong Kong back into China? They are finally on their way back to Dubai: Mainland group in transit limbo heads back to Dubai - RTHK - 2020-07-04

I guess you missed the bit where " The Vietnamese passenger is said to be refusing to leave the airport and wants to catch the first flight that sets off to the country. "

Staying there nothing to do with airport incompetence, more to do with refusing to leave the transit area and presumably not wanting to fall into local officials or CCP hands.

YMMV

Could have detained that person, say at a quarantine station like Lei Yue Mun?

I doubt that's the reason, I would suspect more like they want to trying being annoying and wanting to get onto the next opportunity for a flight to Vietnam. You know, just like those people you see on the TV show "Airport".
