Woolworths gift card thread

Update: It's now been over a week since I swiped my EDR card after spending $100 on Apple gift cards at Big W and the points still haven't landed. I tried using their online chat functionality and after waiting 40 minutes the agent abruptly ended the chat without even responding to my enquiry:

They won't help you before 14 days until after the promotional period. I've found that any promise that they will monitor and transfer after this time if they have not been credited to be empty and I have had to ring back again.

Honestly, there should be an investigation into the amount of times that EDR does not credit points as it ought to. Because I bet the majority of people don't track their points being credited (even I loose track of what's due at times) and so EDR just get away with it...the skeptic in me says"...deliberately."

They won’t help before 14 days after the promo period if the T&Cs say that points can take up to that long to land. But in this case the T&Cs say up to 7 days from the date of purchase and they will engage in that circumstance.

I don’t think it’s deliberate that points don’t appear on occasions - they are always keen to sort it out and often offer some extra points for the inconvenience. I have found that if they say they’ll monitor it then they do, although the points do take a few days longer than they say. I also find that in most cases I don’t have to follow up after the nominated period because the points have arrived.

What annoys me about this is I need to use chat or call to resolve this matter. If this was flybuys I could send an email off to customer care and they’d have it resolved without me having to hold on the line

Update on the update: called up EDR and after checking a number of catalogues they confirmed that I did qualify and that I need to wait 7 business days (I.e. by tomorrow) for it to appear. If it still hasn’t appeared a senior staff member will credit it. The agent also noted that this issue was fairly widespread with members. I’ll give them till end of next week to sort it out.if they haven’t ill send a email to Woolies legal advising them that they haven’t honoured the bonus EDR points offer despite me qualifying for it and pursuing the contact centre to get said points (which they in turn agreed I am owed), reminding them that this could be seen as misleading advertising by the ACCC and that I would be pursuing a complaint with them should the points not be received (plus an extra 2000 EDR for the better part of an hour spent chasing all this down) in a timely manner.

It is situations like these where I think the ACCC should have a policy whereby retailers must offer double the points offered should they fail to post the points in a reasonable timeframe. This is what happens at retailers whenan item is misscanned at the wrong price (e.g. you get the item free), and it’s one way to keep retailers honest in the discounts they offer us.

My experience with flybuys is absolutely horrendous.

Edr's system with points is quite good, and if you have a problem you call and its minimal fuss to get them credited. Except the whole you have to wait 14 days rule.

Every fb issue i call is , send an email.to [email protected]
They take 3-10 days to reply
Two of these is often id checks
I once had one of them who said shes never heard of the promotion in her life.
Other times, after the 4th msg "can you explain your enquiry from the start"

I have used the excuse of ww/coles staff splitting transactions because they dont know how to or its above their limit

Edr always credit it if you call up and explain.
Fb is "bad luck". One even suggested i go back to the store. I mean wth is a store manager going to do

Update: Woolies finally manually posted my points yesterday (would've been nice if they waited an extra day so I'd earn 1,000 points in this new program year for me making me that much closer to earning Points Club status):

Recommend setting WWR set to "bank for christmas" anyway, only changing it over when you want/need a transfer, and giving you the chance of the occasional qantas offer to encourage you to choose this option

Edit: pleasingly mine landed as "make it right" too - no compensation though.

These offers are getting lousier. Last time I bought AirBnb cards they were 20x and I seem to remember a 30x offer a while back (or was that for Uber cards?).
The Airbnb offers at Woolworths alternate between 10x and 20x points. The last time they offered 20x points in-store it was limited to just the $100 fixed value cards which were very hard to find. So whilst you earn half the points with this one, you should at least have no trouble buying them.

Coles did recently offer 30x points on Uber gift cards but aside from that, no company has offered 30x points on any gift cards since Apple gift cards were introduced in 2021.

Ah yes, that was the one.

Question on the WebJet gift cards - is there anything I should be aware of? In particular, can I use these gift cards to book flights and hotels just as I would with say Expedia? I understand that booking with an OTA like WebJet means I don't get the "direct" customer service when booking directly with the airline but still this could represent potentially good value.

Is there a maximum that u can purchase in 1 transaction or in a day?
Yes. The Activ Visa cards limit how much you can spend at supermarkets. From the gift card FAQ on OzBargain:
  • No more than $400 can redeemed from a specific gift card across any supermarkets in a calendar day.
  • If one gift card is successfully redeemed at a given store, a second gift card can only be redeemed at the same store within the next approximately ten minutes if the amount redeemed from the second gift card would see the total amount redeemed stay below $400, even if attempting another redemption through a different EFTPOS terminal at the same store.

No they are on the racks
You can scan the card at selfserve but the assistant will need to approve. They also tend to swipe the card at the end of the tranaction for it to activate it (though you could do it yourself)
Regarding the self-service..... 🎄🎋
