Woolworths gift card thread

It is only triple points if you are displacing a card that would have earnt one third of what you buy the eGift with.

In practice it may be 6 times better, or only 50% better, it all depends what cards you have and what payments methods the organisation/s you are targeting accept.

Purchase WISH card with an AMEX that awards triple points at supermarkets (Eg David Jones AMEX). Use that WISH card to buy the giftcard at Woolworths. Use that giftcard at any place where AMEX is not accepted or where you would not have received triple points if you had used your AMEX. Hence why I stated 'triple points which may not have otherwise been available '

Given posts #929, #931 and the historical discussion in this thread, I thought the connection was more obvious than some seem to have viewed it.

Thanks. I was originally thinking of an ATO spin, where say a 1.5 QFF point per dollar card is triple that of a 0.5 point per dollar card, but those are dried up now where I don't think there is any card that does 0.5 for Visa/MC ATO payments.

In that case, you could view it as ~54+7 = 61c for every $100 spent earning you 150 QFF, less any tax deductions. Effectively bringing the Amex payment down to less than half its usual rate.

This just isn't true.

Here's just one example of a WISH card purchased via cashrewards using an AMEX card:

Note very carefully that triple points were awarded.

Well not really "triple" points as the 57 points is in the Base Points Column. That is just the normal earn for all supermarket spend on an Edge Card which is at 3 points per $. The Bonus Points Column is 0.

If you used your Explorer Card it would be 38 points etc.

I acknowledge that it was 1987 when I completed 4 Unit maths for the NSW HSC and I'm not sure how you are with maths, but $19 spend = 57 points. That 3 points per dollar or very clearly triple single points that would normally be offered for non supermarket spend. Triple means THREE times as much. Therefore the example I provided is the epitome of TRIPLE. Hence the statement which I made which was that triple points were awarded. So once again I stand my my statement "Note very carefully that triple points were awarded."

Don't overlook the Westfield gift cards. They operate like a normal EFTPOS card.

its pretty simple,

3 ppd for amex plat edge

many of my bills either dont accept amex or have a surcharge, many still accept paypal which I have my amex linked for 2ppd

so...........

$105.95 minus 5.55% = $100.07
so im paying 7c extra to get $100 credit on a visa card

so for every $100 I spend using these visa cards that I purhchased for 300 points,
id normally get 2ppd, ie 100 points extra for $0.07,

280,000 points would cost me $196,
280,000 points i can get return business class to europe or america plus taxes

its a flaming bargain!!!

I also have bills that dont accept paypal or amex and only visa/mc
which normally Id pay with my visa card for 0.5 ppd,
so i benefit 2.5ppd, I get 250 points extra for $0.07
280,000 points costs me $74

its such a powerful system!

"very clearly triple single points that would normally be offered for non supermarket spend. " Ok let us run with your explanation then.

That would normally be offered eh? Normal for whom? Normal for which card? Normal compared for which spend?

I have already detailed just before in this thread that the additional points for as you have now deemed it non supermarket spend will not all be at a ratio of 3:1 as it would depend on what spend would be earnt on the card that you might otherwise earn points on by direct spend and that for many people that would not be at a flat 1 point/ $ for all possible non supermarket spend.

So it is not normal for me to earn exactly 1 point per $ on non-supermarket spend. It is not normal for many others as well. Even without this technique I mainly earn 2 points per $ for much of my non supermarket spend. So my points are not tripled to gain 6. Others might normally earn at 0.5 point/$ for a particular payment. So this technique would earn them six times as much. If they have multiple cards that earn at different rates there will be no normal, as it would depend what card they used.

So "very clearly triple single points that would normally be offered for non supermarket spend" is as demonstrated not clear at all and is actually wrong in many cases.

I am sure you are also aware that Woolworths Rewards run promotions such as triple points, x5 points etc on a regular basis, as well as all sort of other promos like 700 bonus point per item, per $30 spend etc. Indeed I have only recently finished a WR Triple Points Promotion.

Such terminology is commonly used in this thread, and in WR Promotions to describe tripling of normal WR points earn.

You guys are funny. So much miss information, go out and try things and see for yourself if you get bonus then win!

Dr Ralph is right.

However with all these new reduced points coming up it's gonna be harder to earn points.

I appreciate that some people struggle with maths and can be embarrassed by this, so I wont comment further on this point.

LOL. Yes I am embarassed by my ability at maths.

I can do a lot of maths in my head that most people have to reach for calculators for.
Studied maths subjects up to the third year of a four degree
Worked in a profession based on maths for over three decades and where the consequences of getting it wrong involves risk to people.

Yes I struggle at maths.........

Always wondered if I can do this with ATO. Has anyone tried?

I'm a quick learner! :)
Been 3 months on Amex now :)
Can't wait for the next visa1 deal
honestly i doubt there will be another only1 visa deal.
I had been hoping the flightcentre deal would come back but alas nothing as yet. That deal was on MARCH 2016.
I have a feeling the eftpos/only1 card deals are just one timers.

On another note, I've managed to purchase 27 cards today when my local refilled its shelves so I am a happy camper for now.

I guess the $10 off the $105.95 deal might not come too often again, its a great deal

but the current 5.55% off for me is good enough to warrant a stock up

on another note, I purchased about 15 today at my 2 local shops, I accidentally swiped 5 and the young checkout guy couldnt swipe his card as it said supervisor required,
supervisor comes across and sees im holding 5, swipes the machine with her id, and then asks him, "has this guy been buying heaps", young kid replies, im not sure, then , the supervisor proceeds to stand behind me until ive finished the 4 cards and I walk off

I wonder what she would have done if she saw the 15 I had in my pocket
