Wont work, the transaction will still be more than $1000.

I would have thought so too but I've since been told by three people who couldn't buy 2x $500 cards that they could buy 1x $500 and 1x $499, despite the purchase fees bringing the transaction total over $1,000. If true, that would seem to suggest that the limit applies only to the spendable amounts on the gift cards.

Can they be used to buy other GC in Coles or Wollies?

Yes. I used a Perfect Eftpos gift card purchased last week to buy a TCN Him gift card at Woolworths today. Note that you almost certainly can't use them to purchase prepaid Eftpos/Visa/Mastercard gift cards or Woolworths-issued gift cards (e.g. WISH, Big W etc) but most other gift cards should be fine.

Interestingly though, it wouldn't let me use everyday pay, first when trying to use a gift card in everyday pay (which I expected), but a second time when i tried to only use my credit card. Ended up having to use the credit card on the eftpos machine.

Can I ask how exactly does using Uber cards to refund the original amount to a debit/credit card work? Is the original amount still refunded if Apple Pay was used where it seems the Apple Pay number is different to the original card number? How long does it normally take for refunds to come through?

My recent uber transactions have been cc via paypal due to the uber one 6 month free with paypal bonus. Basically, uber refunds it to paypal and it feeds through to the CC. The ride/eats delivery has to have been in the last month (any longer it can't be switched over to credit). You can get most of the way through the process (before buying a gift card) to check, I guess?

I’ve had this problem on everyday pay myself, you would have thought the app would be smart enough to resort to your saved credit card if gift card can’t be used!

You won't be able to switch to or from Apple Pay, Google Pay, Paytm, ZaakPay, American Express reward points.

Someone I know was able to switch the payment method from Apple Pay last month during the 30x points offer on Uber gift cards at Coles. I would try it myself but, like you, all my recent purchases were paid for using PayPal.
