Would you guest a total stranger into the Qantas Lounge?

I gave 2 passes to a couple of random (old folks) that looked like sitting at the gate and the 7 hour delay on QF51 might finish them off. Couldn't stop giggling at the number of times i spotted then going back for G & T's. Then I felt really bad wondering if they were even capable of making the flight. BTW I don't think this put any strain on the system as I never have a drink in lounge anyway. I just sit and read a book

I find that a horribly sad and petty attitude. I feel sorry for you. So you basically are happy to perform the role of an informant? How demeaning. Do something nice for someone once in a while - you may just find it redeeming.

guesting one into an airline lounge - you call redeeming!

Get real.

Actually not a bad idea.If I did see anyone outside a lounge with an AFF bag tag showing he or she would definitely get an invite.

I really should have gotten those bag tags when they were available...

Interesting situation in BNE earlier today.

I was leaving the Business lounge when I noticed 3 people walking in and having a conversation with person checking boarding passes etc. I stopped and was checking out the huge queue at gate 23 even though flight was on FINAL CALL.

I overhead something like "Not sure which lounge I can use but I have 2 guests with me."

"You can use the Qantas Lounge but we are busy today and you can only have one guest."

The person with the lounge access doing the talking had a bemused look on her face and looked like they had decided to leave. I just could not let it go so I sort of motioned to them to come with me outside.

I told them that I would guest one of them into the lounge. So walking back inside the lounge entrance and mentioned to the person checking boarding passes.

"This person is my guest."

She then said "You really cannot do that." and snatched my boarding pass out of my pocket and looked at it. This was extremely rude and I just looked at her as if to say you cannot really stop me. Can you?

Anyway walked into the lounge with the 3 people who could not thank me enough. I didn't do anything special but just said to them that I hope the person at the door was stewing know.

I could have perhaps handled it a little better or more subtly but there is nothing they can do about it. I am entitled to 2 guests and I do not believe there is anything that could stop me anyway. By the way the lounge was not that busy and the lady should have let them through.

Having read this thread I would "guest"someone into the lounge (*A) in fact I will even ask if a OW if they can "guest" (I do on the odd occasion use One World and to me it will be impossible to gain status in both!)

I think you handled it beautifully. It's probably what I would have done too. What a horrible lounge dragon. No wonder Qantas is going down the drain.

Must admit I sometimes ask a fellow traveller to join me in the lounge, if I think they are a nice person.

To be fair, the lounge dragon was just doing their job - they are there to enforce the rules and you can't fault them for that.

But I did like what JohnK did to help out - that was lovely.

I have always found lounge angels in BNE to be great. Mind you I always try and start with a big positive I Was able to guest a friend I ran into in the security queue ( flying VA) into the QP with me. ..... :-).

If I had a membership I'd do it...
I'd try to find the me from 5 years ago when I was forced to wait 32 hours on the bench in Cairo. My flight had been cancelled, cancelled and then delayed. I was harrasssed by one of the military police. It was ok for the first 6 hours as 2 others were with me as their flights has also been delayed and they could not check in. But their check in time came, they left, and I was stuck - single white female, felling so very alone and worn out from the fear.
The worst thing was, the other guys knew that there was a rouge official, but when I finally got tired of his advances and spoke to the security check guy he did not beleive me and said "would you even know who to point out"?! (my god - no you dont all look the same to me!!)... anyway... that cops shift ended. I got some sleep, but I put my luggage on top of me and literally slept with 1 eye open... his shift started again but it was daylight and he couldn't hide so much - not that they care. To him I was literally a western prostitute and he was agitated I would not get in a van with him... 6 hours before my flight i got through to the departures lounge. I almost cried i was so happy to be on the 'inside'. Although if anywhere there offered me a lounge pass I probably would have.. I dont know, probably cried and ran away thinking when can I get out of this hell hole!!.. I was in such a bad state I doubt anyone would have offered me... I dont think stinky, literally blood shot, probably a snotty nose, 21 year old meets the criteria :-( lol

Good on you to those people guesting the odd person (...of course as long as they are not 'odd' people!). I really don't get those earlier posts about 'lice' and what not ...terribly uncharitable and bad form. I probably vist lounges 120 times per year and no lice spotted yet. I guess it's like the saying "lie down with dogs and you are sure to get fleas". That's why I prefer cats :p

Having only ever been a "guest" with people I know, not strangers, it is certainly better hanging out inside than outside.
The one time I got in by myself on a points business upgrade, my friend was outside, 0 points/status, so the lounge was not that interesting.
I guess it depends on who you are sitting with. I guess I could have foregone the oportunity and stayed outside with him...NAH!
Hope I meet some of you nice people next time I am waiting ages for a flight...especially if it's International.

Not a Necceassily a complete stranger off the street, but somebody from the same rugby tournament as me that we both played in a few months ago I started chatting to on the train to Manchester airport and I guested him into both the BA lounges at Manchester (where a fire/evacuation alarm went off half way through!) and the lounge in T5 in Heathrow. He was suitably impressed and it gave him a pleasent send off prior to his big flight back to SFO (I was simply going to ZUR).

It was nice to have the company, especially to help those post tournament blues one can get otherwise! But it was nice to make somebodies flight back that little bit more comfortable, especially since it was never asked, but I offered.

So coincidental this was posted as I was sure I had read that there was a forum where I could reach out to fellow qantas club members flying at a similar time to see if they would guest in someone. We are 5 people travelling next Sunday from sydney and I have qantas club membership entitling one guest and we have two single guest passes but need to get access for another person. Can anyone point me in the right direction if this is the wrong place to reach out?

So no airport hotel in Cairo? ( I have not been there so excuse my ignorance)

It is I, Leclerc !

I think you quoted the wrong post. I did not refer to Cairo nor have I even been there. Unless I am missing something.

I would have thought they would have let you all in under those circumstances, eespecially on a sunday

I think it would be a brilliant marketing exercise for QF to give lounge dragons more leeway on who gets in without a pass and who doesn't.

If a member rocks up with 2 people more than his/her entitlement and the lounge is not full then let them in. It introduces it introduces 2 new potential customers to either the idea of more J flying or buying QC membership.

Until next time when they show up expecting to get in and can't. That will just annoy people.

and when they can't get in, then people would be whining about 'inconsistency'.
