The 'reliable coal-fired baseload' myth has well and truly been busted.
MYTH BUSTED that is!
First in late October one coal-fired generation plant broke down and is still out-of-service in Victoria nearly a month later.
Then a second Victorian 'reliable coal-fired baseload' generator broke - unit one of Victoria’s Yallourn coal-fired power plant tripped on Saturday afternoon.
Now the remaining generators are creaming tens of millions in super-profits due to this. This includes the owners of the two coal-fired generators that have broken as they own other power generation plants.
Notice that Qld (under orders from the State Govt) is not rorting the system and is producing the maximum possible to help offset these coal-fired failures down south. The red in the inter-connector box shows that the limit in MW transmission has been reached.
Now this is where it gets VERY interesting (
are you listening ACCC?) as for some reason the Snowy Mountains operators are not doing ANYTHING to increase supply. Meanwhile the other generators they own are maximising their profits. In fact if the Snowy did add some production it would lose millions of these SUPER-profits it is currently raking in.
Neither are the gas plants in SA generating anywhere near their capacity.
Just listen to those senior executives' bonus payments piling up!
