Sat, sun, mon, tue, fri, sat, sun

And this is the 2nd Christmas Day I've had off in 7 years

Do you have a chest freezer you could pop the items into?

No unfortunately. Good suggestion though. Power is back on now but winds are really high. That's what caused the problem in the first place. Severe weather warning now out but much cooler. So far so good. But look out Melbourne.

Fun afternoon constantly ringing the A-holes at my energy supplier. Yes I accept that you are closed after close of business today until 6 Jan. But close of business, sure as hell ain't 3pm!

I know the rails are in place for the electric trains. But we don't have the trains yet. So they are running diesel trains on tracks designed for electric ones. Just a few teething issues. The tracks wiped out the Southern line for 12 months and they've only just come back online with the old diesels. The state govt have been providing free buses during that 12 months. They probably ran out of money so brought the trains back too early.

They were brought back because of political pressure due to project overruns - electrification, delivery of new railcars and signalling system are well behind schedule.

There is no difference between rails for diesel vs electric railcars and we will have mixed diesel and electric fleet for some years to come.

I am looking forward to riding an electric train for the first time in both ADL & AKL during 2014.

Today in western Sydney we are expecting 41°C so there should be heat related speed restrictions.

Yesterday Melbourne cancelled over 80 services, we lost a few in the afternoon to heat related track issues. Today all services were cancelled in Melbourne, we cancelled none.

Not too bad I think. :-)

I'm just hoping all the Christmas turkey, hams and foodstuff purchased this morning won't be spoiled. :(. Anyone know a safe time limit for no refrigeration? House is hot after three days of 40+.

Ahh - Couple a days

Hmmm. I thought Chloe said today that the electric rails/diesel combo was the issue?

There shouldn't be an issue with electric & diesel trains running together on the same track if it was done correctly. The diesel trains should be able to fit under the overhead wires.

The mention of rails makes me think that there may be some signalling issues as (in simple terms) the wheels of the train tells the signalling system & those who control them that the section is occupied.

You nailed it. It's all about signalling issues. At least that is what we've been told.

Does garlic not smell the same to everyone?

Seriously it is disgusting. Stop using it with your daily meals. Especially when it is coming out of the pores.

And yes I know milk may also smell but it doesn't knock you out like the smell of garlic.

But I get what you mean about the garlic smell seeping from the pores. :p

Took me awhile to work out why eating asparagus was not a good idea. Garlic also affects me but have to say its a gem when used correctly in cooking.

If you stink out in public then you could not possibly be using it correctly. Unless of course you dont care who is affected by your odour.
