Hi All,

Just trying to book some tickets to Singapore, and wondering if there's any way to tell which class they will book into?

I know you used to be able to tell from the HTML, but I can't seem to find that (or maybe they changed it?).

Ideally I want to book something that is upgradeable...

Thanks,

LuisT

As long as you don't book a Sale or Red e-Deal you should be able to upgrade. AFAIK, none of the Red e-Deal fares are upgradeable (unless you get one of the phone calls which I don't believe have been happening recently)

If you book from "Super Saver" it will be upgradable. (V class minimum).

PS have you looked at using an award up and purchasing Returns out of SIN. If you to go SIN once a year, it is fantastic value.

Thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately this is a work trip so using points up isn't an option. I just checked the pricing though, and it looks much cheaper!

On a related note - (and probably a stupid question) how do I book non red-e-deals through the multi-city portal? If I select Economy, the only options I get are red-e-deals.

Not a stupid question - the answer is that you can't*. Multi-city will only give you the cheapest available. You will need to telephone (YMMV on getting the assisted booking fee waived due to the inability to do the booking online).

*Not 100% accurate, if all the red-e are sold out (0 availability), then it will offer the lowest avaible fares, which could be a super-saver or the like.

Pretty much all of the red-e-deal fares to SIN are upgradable, when you click on on the red e deal in the far quote it says:

Flight Upgrade Awards are eligible on this fare except if this is a Qantas Any Seat Award.

You can always do a book now pay later booking or BPAY to confirm what class!

I just did this to check fare class for some flights to NRT using Bpay. the Pay Later option requires a $25 deposit. If I don't pay by Bpay, the booking is just cancelled? I'm not going to be billed for $25 or something stupid like that? Anyone had any experience of this.

BTW they were red-e-deals and the description said nothing about upgrades. Turns out they a N fares.

The BPAY booking does get cancelled in a few days.

The lack of upgrade info on the NRT leg for red e deals has been discussed recently by us both

http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...mum-class-ticket-required-points-21799-2.html

again the OP is talking about another destination ( SIN ) where it is very clealy mentioned on three of the booking pages. BTW the Red E Deal fares for the next few month book into V for SIN .

Thanks for the advice on BPay.

I well remember that we discussed this recently. That is why i went ahead and followed your advice to use the bpay option, to find out the booking class.

I'm not sure what the destination has to do with the question that has been asked.

As you know from our discussion I have the same question and in my case the red-e-deal information is unclear. So I'm just following the advice that has been giving on how to find out this information and had a follow up question about a particular aspect of the advice that you provided.

None of that has anything to do with the destination and I really don't know why you have to keep getting hung up on the destinatation, as it is irrelevant to the question i asked here.

I did also let the other thread go. But i would suggest you go back and reread it because I as far as I can see you totally misinterpreted the context involved.

Its a Qantas Bug with NRT that it does not show the upgrade status in red e deals (it does with Sale Fares and the others), so the destination is important, again given the OP was asking about SIN, which shows the upgradability in all fares on three pages of the booking process, my advice is current. I am not aware of another destination that does not show the upgradability for red e deals by clicking on the fare type domestically or international. If you really want to make sure, do the dummy booking with BPAY, just be aware it may take the last seat in that fare bucket!

My point is that I did thebit of your advice that I've highlighted above, and I had a follow up question. The destination is irrelevant , especially as we discussed the issues to do with destination in another thread and I understand all that and I wasn't asking a question to do with the destination.

BTW I have seen the situation of red-e-deals not containing the relevant information for SIN and FRA and maybe domestic in the past. But sometime ago and I only recall seeing it when a sale fare is available as well.

If you want to see the booking class, once you have selected your flights and are on the "Review" page, right click on your mouse and click on "view source". When the source page opens, scroll down until you see (after a big blank section) a line that starts with "var mileageRequest". Then look a little further down (about 8 rows) for the line that says "mileageRequest += "&CLASSES=". After the = sign, you will see the booking classes for each sector. If you are doing a multi-sector itinerary, it is relatively easy to view which sector is which by looking at the entry a few lines above which starts with "mileageRequest += "&SECTORS=". Each sector is separated by a comma, and the fare classes follow the same format. For example a SYD-BNE-SYD you see the following in the source code:

var mileageRequest = this.earnPointsConnectorUrl;
mileageRequest += "&REQUEST_ID="+this.earnPointsRequest_Id;
mileageRequest += "&SECTORS=SYD/BNE,BNE/SYD";
mileageRequest += "&SEGMENT_ID=1,2";
mileageRequest += "&FLIGHT_NUMBERS=532,557";
mileageRequest += "&AIRLINE_CODES=QF,QF";
mileageRequest += "&OPERATING_CODES=*,*";
mileageRequest += "&NB_STOPS=0,0";
mileageRequest += "&CLASSES=L,E";
mileageRequest += "&FQTV_NUMBER_LIST=*";
mileageRequest += "&DATES=150320101505/150320101535,150320101925/150320102200";
return mileageRequest;

I have found this an invaluable method for checking which fare class I am booking into, especially when trying to ascertain best fare availability with ExpertFlyer etc.

This method works for both domestic and international bookings. For example, SYD-SIN-SYD returns this:

var mileageRequest = this.earnPointsConnectorUrl;
mileageRequest += "&REQUEST_ID="+this.earnPointsRequest_Id;
mileageRequest += "&SECTORS=SYD/SIN,SIN/SYD";
mileageRequest += "&SEGMENT_ID=1,2";
mileageRequest += "&FLIGHT_NUMBERS=5,6";
mileageRequest += "&AIRLINE_CODES=QF,QF";
mileageRequest += "&OPERATING_CODES=*,*";
mileageRequest += "&NB_STOPS=0,0";
mileageRequest += "&CLASSES=V,V";
mileageRequest += "&FQTV_NUMBER_LIST=*";
mileageRequest += "&DATES=160320101655/160320102145,220320101955/230320100625";
return mileageRequest;

So in this case, the fares selected are booking into V class.

Hope this helps!

I was looking at a multi city booking recently BNE-SYD-SIN-MEL-SYD. I wanted to be on the A380 both ways and it was on sale.

Looked up on the QF website and priced the multi-city itinerary using the "Sale" airfares. As I had a voucher to use I then called QF Travel and they could see exactly the same itinerary for exactly the same price. All the flights booked into V class and are upgradeable.

There definitely were red e-deal and super saver airfares available so I do not what is going on sometimes.

If you want to see the booking class, once you have selected your flights and are on the "Review" page, right click on your mouse and click on "view source".<snip>
Nice work. I might look at whipping up a greasemonkey script to expose that information permanently. Will let everyone know what I come up with.

Definitely keen to see something along these lines. I tried doing exactly that about a year ago, but attempting to write javascript just makes me angry so I gave up.

For a step by step summary:

If you want to see the booking class, once you have selected your flights and are on the "Review" page, right click on your mouse and click on "view source". ...
  • Enter Qantas.com
  • Search for and select flights
  • Click [Review] button and the "Review your flight" page appears
  • Activate your browser's "view page source" feature¹.
  • In the new window, hit page down a few times until you see a block of text beginning with:
    Code:
    var mileageRequest = this.earnPointsConnectorUrl;
    (See post 12 of this thread for examples)
  • In here there is a line with the code:
    &CLASSES=x ...
    x ... indicates the booking class(s) for your selected flight(s).
¹ Invoking "View Page Source" depends on your browser:
  • Firefox:
    • [Right-Click] in an insensitive area of the page, "View Page Source", or
    • Click "View" in the top menu and select "Page Source", or
    • Hit [CTRL+U].
  • Internet Explorer
    • [Right-Click] in an insensitive area of the page, "View Source", or
    • Click "View" in the top menu and select "Source", or
    • Hit [CTRL+F3].

OK, I brushed the cobwebs off my JavaScript hat, put it on and did some coding.

I have set up a GreaseMonkey script to present the fare buckets to punters as the 'review' page comes up.

Any who would like to test it, please PM me. ..

It does not work (yet) on xASA's.

Works a treat in Chrome!
