How to fly Business Class at home!

I don't think I will bid on it. Who wants a seat in their loungeroom, where: you're not allowed to recline for the first and last 10 minutes of each time you sit in it; the tv won't turn on straight away; when it does turn on, it shows: a safety demonstration, 10 minutes of boring commercials...

What do you want/expect on board?

This is the one thing I really appreciate and about the only "extra" service I need as a WP to feel like I am treated a bit special , to be offered a glass of the J wine while flying Y (make it the shiraz though for me). Week before last on a flight MEL-PER I asked for a second wine...

    Frankfurt - lounge?

Yes, Qantas share the Cathay lounge at FRA, and it is not great. It is always crowded (hard to find a seat usually), food is poor, but there are 2 self-serve bars (not a great selection of wine, but I am usually ready for a G&T at that time). There are only 2 PCs, and they are always being...

Hawaii's Big Island in 1 day: Possible?

I hired a car in Hawaii in July this year just using my Vic licence, no questions asked.

    Big development! Qantas seat selection!

For a trip MEL/FRA and back last month, I rang to request row 16, but was told that exit rows now had to be paid extra for. I explained that was only for economy and they went away and confirmed I was correct. I finished up with row 16 for 3 out of the 4 legs, at no additional cost.

    "Expess Lane" Inwards AUS Immigration

I think your sample of one may be too small to make a valid assumption. I have been through in MEL quite a few times (usually with an express card, but not always) and I don't think the card makes any difference to whether you get to go through x-ray. The choice of who gets to take the slow...

    A330-300 on PERTH routes?

I guess that means the IFE is fully usable on the Perth flight? I had a 333 for a SYD-MEL flight recently, and thought it was great to have the IFE. When I switched it on after take-off I could select a show to watch and all seemed great. But as soon as they started the "PM News" telecast...

    Emirates Business Class Seats

Yes, they are really wide, but they are also quite short compared to most J seats. The screens are also huge.

    What to do in Bangkok

I've only been once for 3 nights, so definitely not an expert. But there is plenty to see/do in Bangkok, and it is easy to get around. We used airport transfers organised by the hotel, and I think this is the easiest option. Once you are there, getting around is easy and fun using tuk tuks...

Where should I go in Thailand?

I would also recommend Samui as a great holiday destination. We stayed at Chaweng last September, and it was a really good location. The beach is not great for swimming, but the beach life with restaurants and bars is fantastic. For under 10 AUD you can sit at a table right on the beach and have...

foldable luggage carrier as carry on

Re: cabin luggage/not checked I'm sure either another passenger or a FA will help you get it up anyway. Most people are accommodating in that way.

foldable luggage carrier as carry on

Re: cabin luggage/not checked My wife bought one of these "prehistoric luggage holders" for my daughter's school bag a couple of years ago, so I believe they are still available. It didn't last terribly long, but probably enough for one o/s trip. I am not sure where she purchased it, but if...

Using QFF Points for First Class

Good choice, I would have chosen the First option also. Enjoy the flight and the Lobster :), I'm sure you will.

Thanks Alanslegal, very clear explanation. So which option have you decided on?

Lounge access flying Jetstar from Tulla to Sydney

The First Lounge is upstairs, away from the other lounges, The international Business Lounge in MEL is not bad, but I would not bother with the extra hassle of departing from the international terminal just to attend it. The F Lounge is a different matter :), but its a pity you don't have access.

Using QFF Points for First Class

Okay, that makes perfect sense. There is obviously some quirks to the SQ awards I am not aware of (not surprising, I have never tried to redeem any of my KF points). Obviously the option i) 747 F flight you listed is not the same points if you start in HK, or you would have listed that also, why...

Using QFF Points for First Class

I'm not sure why your option ii) starts in HKG rather than SIN? Why not take the LCC straight to SIN, and therefore your comparison would be SIN-SYD in 747 F, or SIN-SYD in 380 J, with neither option requiring top-up points. It would then be a simple decision on whether 380 J, with a cheaper...

    Extra guests into QP

I (WP) have been successfull on all 3 occasions I have tried to get self, wife and 2 daughters (15 and 11) into the FLounges, including both MEL and SYD. These were not at particularly quiet times, but the lounges were not overflowing. I would feel fairly confident that you should be ok on...

How many diverted flights have you been on ?

Ok thanks, that makes more sense. I will contain my umbrage :).

How many diverted flights have you been on ?

If that is the reason (which I have no reason to doubt) I find it really poor . The amount of fuel would be minimal and yet they will let their paying customers sit for extended periods in a metal tube with no IFE! How much more pleasant would it be to suffer an extended sit on the...
