Some people do a weekly shop, some do more frequent shops. Some go to Coles on the way home and buy a chicken and salad for dinner.
A quick check of my pre-promotion shopping patterns would show that I (or Mrs NM with a supp card) visit one of the major supermarkets at least 5 times a week, sometimes more. And today is not going to be any different - once we decide what we want for dinner tonight.

It's a really odd thing. A month or so ago, seeing all these little Coles/Woolworths transactions on my statement from the supp card holder used to slightly irritate me (as someone who always did the big weekend shop, and I know there was no need to be irritated), but not anymore!

Agree, and also, some ppl go to coles after work buy small things by CASH before promo, now they use AMEX.

How does this sounds to you AMEX?

I usually go to Coles/Woolies/Aldi about 3-5 times a week and a bottle shop about twice a week.

I wish Aldi takes AMEX. I used to do 80% of my groceries at Aldi, and the remaining 20% at Coles (as Aldi doesn't have everything we need).

Since the promo, 100% of my groceries come from Coles/Woolies for obvious reasons :)

Aldi surcharge the cards they do take. So I imagine if the did take Amex they'd have a fairly hefty surcharge on it.

How much additional are you paying for your shopping by switching to Coles/Woolies? It must quite an amount. Unless you have switched to lots of transactions at C/W then surely the margin benefit must be less than the additional cost of shopping at C/W?

I duno. Coffee yes, but coles every day? Yes it's legit you don't want to buy it all at once, but will amex get desperate and say that yes you should have it
all at once? You can buy $5 milk/veg/etc every day but can also buy it once on the wkend like b4 the promo.
The vague 'spirit' of the program may say this is bad.

Before the promotion i would shop at coles/woolies 3 or 4 times a week sometimes $20-$30 with my Amex so cannot see that could be a problem during the promotion.

No so easy in OSX ;)

Actually it's easier. Edit /etc/hosts :p

*edit* damnit. NM beat me to it ;)

There's also plenty of blockers around for Firefox etc. Anyway, this is o/t. Back onto amex sledging/info/argument/debate/etc :)

I'm guessing this is the kind of behaviour Amex is trying to promote.

Not all things are that much more expensive at Coles/Woolies, just need to watch for specials and buy smartly. I would say I am paying 10-20% more at Coles/Woolies now, but since I have a Coles beneath my office, I now shop at Coles once every day or two, compared to my once every 3-4 days at Aldi in the past.

So I do believe my bonuses are more than worth the extra 10-20% premium I pay for groceries.

Re: surcharge at Aldi... if they take AMEX and impose a 3% surcharge, I would still shop there because they are cheaper than C/W and the 3% (based on average spend of $20-30), is only 60-90cents and more than worth the bonus points.

Identified 21 transactions for October already
Funny how this promo is making us check our MR transactions daily now to see what has posted - I'm only on 12 up to this mornings posting.

Pity, I had two transactions yesterday where I couldn't use Amex (Doctor and pharmac_). If I had thought about it (and I wasn't so desperate for medical intervention to my illness), I probably would have gone to a pharmac_ close to home that accepts Amex.

Still, we live and learn - better to do it earlier in the month than later.

Interesting - I have found Pharmacies generally OK at taking Amex. Did you try and use Amex at the Doctor? I had not realise that my wife's doc takes Amex (and the obstetrician) until I saw it appear on the MR line at the start of this promo (also the Hospital takes Amex for parking).

anyone know if iTunes is counted as an Aussie transaction and is therefore included ? It shows up as:

ITUNES MUSIC STORE SINGAPORE AUSTRALIA

It seemed to count in my original bonus run.

Remember though that we actually have no idea what works and what doesnt at this point.

I didnt think it would. as earlier posted in this thread, however on the 21st of September $3.60 was billed from Itunes (as per above billing note) and 4 MR points were awarded, and it counted in that batch of 5 transactions for 5000 bonus points

Given Amex has spoken and now gives unlimited bonus points earn for pre-20 September folks, should we create a new thread to see who has earnt the most bonus points?!?!:p:D

Even better, who will hit the magical 1M bonus points mark ;):!:

ps.I'm just kidding re: posting numbers. I'm sure if we posted magical numbers Amex would be jumping up and down, pulling hairs, breaking windows, throwing chairs and may even resort to unilaterally change to the T&C once again.

Surely if it's billed in AUD, it would count as an AU Transaction? It says "Singapore Australia". Not sure what that's supposed to men, unless SQ is taking us over ;)
