10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

I just got off the phone with Amex as I was checking that I was still enrolled in the promo. Thankfully it looks like I'm still on the uncapped MYREWARDS.

The only interesting thing I have to report was the customer service rep stated they are thinking of flicking the switch so the bonus points post when you hit the required number of transactions - as it was previously doing in September.

Looks like I'm out of the running. Tore an Achilles tendon and, since I can't drive, my Amex expenditures will fall to near zero.:(

Now, a question: my AMEX Gold Rewards Maximiser card is up for renewal in December. I have read on other threads that if you have spent more than $8K per annum (no problem here ;)), AMEX will wave the fee. However, due to point earning potential of this promotion, what do you think the chances are of the fee being waived?

With the changes to points earning and QFF, I'm not sure what I'll be doing about the Maximiser. At some point I will phone and ask if they will consider waiving the fee. This would be better for my circumstances than changing to a Platinum.

I have, however, decided to do nothing until this promo is over and all points are allocated. I'm spooked :) and so I'd rather leave things alone for now. Please don't take this as advice, simply what I have decided to do, or not do.

Iza

Hi Iza,welcome to the forum. I was in a very similar situation. My maximiser card is up for renewal in November and I am on the MYREWARDS bonus.

I called them last week and told them I am considering my card options now (i didn't explicitly say i am cancelling as no way in the world would I cancel during such an awesome promo!).

I told them that the card fees are high, benefits are shrinking (1.25pt/dollar from Apr), etc... the CSR recognised my perfect payment records and has been a member for 8 years, he then said he's happy to waive my $192 annual fee. But I still have to pay for my supplementary card.

So I think your have reasonably good chance if you have a good payment record and have a reasonable spending record.

Good luck :)

I prefer faxes to slow registered mail. Christain can fax it onto Vanessa Kerrerra, Vice President of the Pacfic if he wants.

Personally I'd write to the FOS Ombudsman because they send the letter onto Amex and ask Amex to resolve it in a month or else the Ombudsman starts looking.

Brace yourselves...

I too have received an allocation of bonus points. Could this be good news? My background is as follows:
  1. Registered 17 September 5/5k promo (uncapped, non-multiple registration)
  2. Received xx,xx_x up until 24 September
  3. Owed xx,xx_x for remaining transactions in September
  4. Received 5,000 bonus points today with date of "04/11/2008" in MR
  5. Moderate to high user
It's a little odd why I have only received a single allotment of bonus points, as I did enough transactions on the 4th (of November) to allow the 'pinning' of bonus points against them. I'm certainly not complaining though.

When others start accruing their bonus points, it would be great if they could also provide their background status, as it would make it easier for everyone in this forum to identify with those that fit in their basket. Or is that 'bucket'?

:p

looks like i got 5k points on 3/11 too.

- 5000 Membership Rewards Bonus Points
will look closely to check further points.

Sorry, did you receive xx_,xx_ points or xx,xx_ ??? e.g. 100,000 or 10,000? Also what was the transaction listed as in your "View My Transactions" ?

Christian today refused to accept a fax.

Well, i finally bit the bullet and rang Amex today. FWIW I rang platinum card services, not the rewards "help" desk.

I received promo card (5000pts/5txns; uncapped) - must have come mid september whilst i was overseas, and i registered on/about the 29th september (before the "fix").

I made the point that it was posting 5000pts for each of the first 5 txns in October and November, and the second 5 txns in October and November, but nothing else. I was told initially "the promo has been capped because of abuse of the promo". This all whilst it seemed she was loading my detials up. i made the point that I was very upset to be offered something, have no correspondance, have not abused naything, and be capped. At this point, my details apprently came up and she confirmed I was on "myrewards" and i was uncapped (as per targetted promo). Hooray! BUT I was also told there is delayed posting of the points, so i can expect to wait the 6-8 weeks (as stated on the card) for them to post. But i am definitely on the 5000/5 uncapped.

So, either i'm being strung along (possible, but risky on Amex's behalf) or i am actually on the 5000/5 (seems more likely). But there's no point doing anything until the 6-8 weeks elapse.

I'm still owed xx,xx_, for September transactions, after having xx,xx_ bonus points applied to my account so far, including the 5,000 points received today. I was not able to get to six figures for September - sorry about the typo!

The transaction in MR reads in the same format as when points were originally crediting (i.e. prior to 24 September). Here's a snapshot of what is showing today:

04/11/2008 NAME OF COMPANY $AMOUNT
- Platinum Credit Card Bonus Points NORMAL.BONUS.AMOUNT
- 5000 Membership Rewards Bonus Points 5,000

Other transactions for 04/11/2008 also appear, but without the bonus.

I have both the credit and charge cards. I'm not sure if this has any relevance to the bonus points suddenly posting. The transaction listed is from a supplementary credit card holder.

Is there any reason that people insist on using xx,xx_ etc?

Why is it such a secret. If you bother putting xx,xx_... why don't you just tell us the amount?

What do you have to lose?

If you are going to tell us your story and the details of your enrollment, you might as well tell the whole story and exactly how many points you are talking about!!

For my part, in October i did 168 transactions, 3 returns... They moved me to the 10t/5k, so i expect at least xx,xx_ (no i am joking) 80,000 points from Oct...

17 Transactions in the first 4 days of November as well (and I have been house bound as well!)

(Though if they left me on the 5/5 I would have earned 165,000 points in October... I am thinking about chasing this issue up later when we see if others have been successful.)

Because somebody is watching. And I like to talk in code...

The goose has landed. Operation shop and awe. Send mother dearest. She's got a date with destiny. :D

MDC did you get the invitation card?

snufl, I did not! Which is why I thought I would call to confirm what is happening.

I'm really not sure whether I believe the cust service rep after all the information I have read here.

I guess all I can do is sit tight and wait. At the end of the day, I was not invited to take part of the promo so anything is better than nothing; and nothing is exactly was I was amex intended for me.

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if everybody suddenly finds that that point per dollar ratio on redemptions suddenly increases soon.

This always happens around this time every year.

See United (2008), Marriott (2008), Velocity Shop (2008), SPG Category Changes, Priority Club (2006), Introduction of QFF Anytime Awards, etc.

Points by their nature always deflate in value since they don't take into account inflation, etc.

Does anyone know if the 25% bonus offer is for all AMEX cards or for a targetted group?

If it helps:

Part of the T&Cs offer only available to selected Cardmembers who receive this communication from American Express.

I got the offer, my husband didn't.
