10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

I suspect that the delay in posting bonuses has little to do with workload. I think it has more to do with witholding them until all avenues to avoid giving them are investigated.

Amex has lost all credibility with me. We have been cardholders for over 30 years and had a high regard for Amex, a sad day regardless of the eventual outcome.

Despite the bad will I do not think I will be stopping using my Amex card. I will still be getting points, I like using the card and otehr ancilliary benefits.

I will fight tooth and nail for my 5K/5T promo points though!

I'm sure it won't be long before they start moving 5T/5K postcarded people to 10T/5K as well!

Spot on! I was postcard invited 5T/5K registered 16/9/08, reviewed on 4/12/08 (no letter in my letter box yet, this was all on the phone) and was changed to 10T/5K backdated to 1/10/08. I actively used the card based on this promotion...

I am waiting to see if the Executive Office will call back after getting their number from FOS...

This is almost good enough for Today Tonight!

Same here. I just started using Amex in the middle of this year and I wished I had done so earlier because the points I get on this card are far better than my alternative card. Sure, I can't use it in as many places as my Visa, but when I can use it, it's been most advantageous.

I don't have the income to get another card from another lender with the same and/or similar advantages to my current Amex. I anticipate that those who are disgusted by Amex as it is and wish to move away will be actively seeking out such cards. (Diners anyone?)

I balk at the idea of TT and/or ACA picking up this farce and turning it into a circus. Their journalism skills are a farce as it stands already.

I hate both shows and refuse to watch them, but this is the Amex's handling of this fiasco puts it to the same level..

I agree. Better to take the level-headed, unemotional path through the proper authorities as done by file51.

+1.. Despite great ill feeling towards AMEX over all this, the reality is a reasonable portion of my spend will stay on an AMEX card just because the ongoing rewards are better than the alternatives.

Certainly post Dec 31 all my spending will be going to AMEX Earth and after that promo ends in March I can't see any particularly good reason to go back to using the regular AMEX, since the 1.5 pts is the same either way. I will have moved over all my direct debits (lots of them!) to the Earth card by then and they will be staying put (at least until something better comes along - say a Centurion card with an offer of 2 pts per $ indefinitiely? ;))

The paranoia has really started to set in now.

I suspect that the delay in posting bonuses has little to do with workload. I think it has more to do with witholding them until all avenues to avoid giving them are investigated.
Why are some people receiving bonus points while others are not? Some were targetted, some were not targetted, some enrolled multiple times, some enrolled only once, some before September 20, some after September 20. Makes absolutely no sense to me....

JohnK my husband has been receiving bonuses since the beginning of Nov. Why? I have no idea.

The thing is, he has been receiving 5K per 10 transactions when he was enrolled (only once) in the 5T/5K. This prompted his call to MR on 17th Nov, to make sure he hadn't been changed to another promo. He was assured he was enrolled in the 5T/5K and all points would be forthcoming as advised by the T&Cs we all saw at that time.

Today he received the retrospective change letter. He made a quick call to MR and was told the information he received was correct at 17 Nov but not now.

With all the changes to T&Cs I am happy to wear the paranoid label. I would not have expected this last one, only a few weeks before the end of the promo. He questioned how this could be made retrospective and was only told to write a letter as there was nothing MR could do to change it.

What irks me the most is their handling of this. They knew they had a problem back in September and even now are trying to make changes, they have had plenty of time to get this sorted and post bonuses on time for everyone. Many people were given verbal assurances weeks ago. I know some will say not to trust what you are told, however if that is the case, why does Amex have a MR customer service line at all?

I've also now received thew downgrading letter - I was pre 20th Sept, and only enrolled in 5/5. My last conversation with MR was yesterday and they made no mention of the letter.

MR said to address correspondence to:

American Express Australia Ltd
Membership Rewards
F10N.5
GPO Box 240
Sydney 2001

I asked for a street address to allow for the sending of recorded delivery, they gave me:

American Express Australia Ltd
Membership Rewards
175 Liverpool St
Sydney 2000

Good luck all!

Does anyone know what is the best postal address for complaints about this promo? I have been given 2 different addresses during 2 separate conversations:

1) GPO Box 1582, Sydney 1131
2) GPO Box 240, Sydney 2001

[edit: thanks BAZ123... you answered my question while I was typing the above :)]

And herein lies another perfect example of AMEX's attempts to limit their liability. Would be interesting to know the numbers they're looking at...

I actually have some clear time today but the site is blocked by my company webfilters :(
.

Try a web proxy or sth?
btw, there's sub pages on the right under 'Navigate pages' Anyone can create/delete pages but can't rename them (!) so take care.

Well there certainly has been a bit of action in the past 24 hours. Interesting to hear that people are now getting retrospective letters - members (like us here) who believe they know their legal position are going to have a fun time with Amex and BFOS/ACCC etc.

I do feel glad that I didn't push the envelope and accepted 10T/5K as my promo (I hadn't been postcarded), as now I don't have quite the same issues as others. But I will be supporting them in their endeavours to get Amex to see commonsense.

Looked at my MR account today, no 5K bonus points but they have already credited yesterday's transactions. Now looks like time to gear up and write a nice letter to Amex, asking where are my September bonus points? I'm sure that by the time it's 10 weeks from 31 October (9 January), they'll have hopefully sorted out some system.

Code:
Month Transactions Points Credited Points Owed
September^ 23 5,000 5,000
October 70 0 35,000
November 102 0 50,000
December# 46 0 20,000

^ from date of registration (18/9)
# up to and including 9/12, with at least 2 transactions to post from today. Goal is 120, so I'm well ahead of target  - maybe time to consider 150  [That would make an overall target of 155K bonus points]

Interesting as the situation may be, there's been another 5k points added to my balance just then.

Looks like it just got a bit too rich for Amex in teh current environment. It is a shame - I was hoping to get these points before my unborn baby's first birthday - guess it's time to get into the siege mentality...

And in another twist no 5K bonus posted against transaction 20 today even though regular points posted...

Amex are now in the hole for 146K points... Average T value - $82.
