Well...who else has spent very little on Amex since Dec31?

My spend has dropped off dramtaically.

However I am not boycotting Amex. It is just rather that after 3.5 months of solid shopping that I basically need very little!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And naturally enough a lot of what I need this month, or so, was purchased in December.;)

What few purchases I do have that can be on Amex are currently going on my Earth Amex...though my wife's card off my Amex is trickling a small number of tx through.

Am still spending with Amex, but have swapped to the Earth Platinum to garner their bonus points until the end of March, then I'll swap back again ;)

My spend has dropped - as I'm now returning to my favourite local coffee shops that don't take Amex, not going into Sydney City to shop (where a lot of places took Amex) and much of my spending has returned to the Wish/Coles stored value cards which I can buy at a 5% discount to face value (albeit purchased with Visa/MC, not Amex). That means all my petrol/groceries/department store purchases go on Amex.

Now back to the newsagent for the paper (doesn't take Amex).

I'll still use Amex - I thought of boycotting them, but decided not to - just that I don't go out of my way to look for transactions. I haven't been back to Starbucks since the end of the promotion - the coffee at my local coffee shop is MUCH better.

My attitude towards AMEX is going to be this:

I've fulfilled my part of the bargain, in the spirit of the promotion and maximised the use of my card on the promise that they would reward me with points as incentive.

Just like everyone else, AMEX isn't the most widely accepted card around, and all of us had to put in some effort to find places that utilise the card and change our spending habits.

My spending on AMEX has dropped significantly since 31st Dec in large part as a protest until AMEX exercises good faith in fulfilling their side of the bargain (i.e. awarding the points promised).

Having said that i wouldn't be surprised if AMEX turns around and accuses us of abusing the promotion, as "evidenced" by the drop in usage right after the promotion. Exactly how they would be able to argue that with their logic i don't know. But having experiences what they are capable of doing over the last 3 months, i dare say nothing really surprises us anymore.

off topic but can the amex bonii go to skymiles??

Well in Amexe's last letter to me they stated that they would respond within 30 days to my response.

This is just about up, and so far no reply from Amex has been received.

So if I have not received a reply by next Tuesday (after the Long Weekend) I will be off to the BFSO as Amex will be in breach of their own time limit.

Such a breach by Amex is one of the conditions listed by the BFSO that needs to occur before the BFSO will act.

I'm in a similar situation (except that the 30 days has expired) so I am posting off a letter to Amex stating that I am assuming that I have been re-enrolled in the offer since they haven't written back in their own time frame and that I require written confirmation within 14 days.

Failing this, I will be off to the BFSO.

Those who have 'been there, done that and won' have posted their suggestion to just go direct to the bfso.

Which is what I've done.

However, I got a case number from the BFSO, and they said that there would be delays before they could even review it and get back to me as to whether it was even able to be reviewed by the BFSO - and a month later, they haven't got back to me. I feel I'll need to give them a call.

The same letter was faxed to Executive Services at Amex and I haven't heard a peep out of them, either.

Please explain what you are recommending...

There are ways to engage Industry Ombudsmen, and ways to waste their time. What steps should someone take before engaging the BFSO?

After unsuccessful calls to Amex, I then wrote to them (registered post) and gave them two weeks to reply, then sent a copy of all my documents to the FSO after having lodged a complaint on line.

I got a case number immediately and confirmation of receipt of info a week or so later. Three weekss+ later I got a letter acknowledging my claim and notification that they had given Amex 1 month to resolve. 2 weeks later I got a call from Amex with the proposed resolution.

One point of note is that I have received two lumps sums (35K 31/12 and an exact figure on 13/1 that reversed the POC amount). I am waiting to see what posts by 31/1 as I am now a little concerned about a difference between my estimate and Amex's planned payout...

Can you tell us what the proposed resolution was (points & timeframe) vs what Amex should have given you?

I have recived about 60% of the points I think I am entitled to. I was told I would receive all points by 31/1 so I might be worryin about nothing.

As you know, I didn't get any of these promo points....

But hey ! I have my own little surprise for AMEX.....

They will wish they had of offered me a million points !!!

regards,
GORDO

Hehe, I can imagine! Good to see you in a more positive frame of mind!

On the BFSO..

My underestanding is that they will not take action until there is a "dispute". ie That Amex will have to have said "no" in some way.

Some Forumites had a "dispute" early because Amex change them into a lesser rate etc.

In my case while I was suspended, it was worded such that I was invited to show why my tx were valid. So therefore it is not quite a dispute yet.

If I do not have reply waiting for me in Melbourne (I am at CNS in the QC typing this) then I will be in "dispute" as the 30 day period fora reply nominated by Amex itself will have lapsed..
