Dont buy more vouchers than you may need over the year and don't forget that even the smallest voucher takes away the card fees, value in itself.

So if the value of the voucher is less than the cost of the flights and you pay the difference, there is no card fees on the entire booking? Good to hear, although I can't actually see that anywhere in the T & Cs. Qantas Vouchers|Terms and Conditions

Its in the terms and conditions for fees:

For Australian flight bookings, a card payment fee applies per passenger per booking unless you pay by:
Debit Card or Qantas CashTM for bookings made within 7 days of departure;
BPAY for bookings made at least 7 days before departure;
Qantas UATP
Credit voucher

Yes this is a great benefit and even if you need to fly more than the number of vouchers you have purchased with this offer, it is always worthwhile to purchase a voucher just before you book a flight. The savings add up.

Re: QFF points for gift vouchers

So frustrating that they don't allow use on multi-city bookings.
I got excited thinking I'd make some easy points on my BNE>JFK DXB>BNE combination.

Re: QFF points for gift vouchers

I will be doing the same as you and just go for the $500 vouchers again, they are also more flexible as you may need to book a flight at some stage which is more than $50. ...
I am not sure what you mean here.

A $50 voucher can be just as easily be used for a $79 fare as it can be for a $5000 fare ...

I guess we are all different.

Working on the assumption I need 70 flights @ $79/flight for the coming 12 months

- purchase 70 x $50 vouchers and I receive 35,000 QFF points bonus points
- purchase 10 x $500 vouchers and I receive 50,000 QFF points bonus points

That is a siginificant amount of QFF points. I can call a few times to have remarks removed from the booking.
Huh? What a strange comparison.

Cost of 70 * $50 vouchers = $3500, cost of 100 $50 vouchers = $5000.

I can understand not wanting to go though the process of purchasing and keeping track of 100 vouchers ... and that's fair enough.

I have no idea what your comparison otherwise was about in relation to siginificant !??!?!

Comparing 35000 points for $3500 expenditure with 5000 points for $5000 expenditure is like stating 1 is sometimes a small value less than 1 - certainly not siginificant.

No, I get it. I'm in the same boat. The view is this: considering JohnK has to spend the 70 x $79 ($5,530) at some point, he may as well spend it now on 10 x $500 ($5,000) and earn the bonus 50,000 points now versus spend 70 x $50 ($3,500) and only earning 35,000 points, and then still having to spend an extra 70 x $29 and not earning bonus points on that spend value.

A $500 voucher equates to 6 x $79, leaving $26, meaning that he only has to spend an extra $53 at the end of that voucher. So over the 10 vouchers, that's only an extra $530 outlay, versus the $2,030 for the 70 x $50 vouchers.

I get it. I'll be doing the same as JohnK. I bought 20 x $500 last year as I knew I'd be spending that value of money with QF. But yes, as medhead points out, I do find it a bit of a nuisance having to phone up to get the remarks removed.

Based on my experience from last year, I seldom need to call Qantas to get the comments removed except for the flight booked using the final remaining balance on the voucher. Other than that, a new voucher is automatically generated and emailed to me after I use the voucher.

I will definitely take advantage of this promotion again this year.

Sorry how did the computer know it was the final remaining balance? My experience was using the first remaining value voucher the system was unable to find the voucher until I called and had the comments removed.

Goodo - I clearly need to drag myself into this century and do things this new-fangled way :)

Re: QFF points for gift vouchers

Could someone explain what will happen if you do not call to get the "remark" removed ?

I kept on making another booking using the residual voucher value without calling up and that does not seem to affect my MMB etc...

Maybe I was lucky ??

It may be easier to purchase 1 voucher per flight but there is a lot of wastage that way.

I wish I could purchase a $5,000 voucher and call after each return booking to have the gift voucher remarks removed from the new voucher created.

Surely it would be better to buy 35 $150 vouchers at a total cost of $5250 and get an extra 2500 points.

Since only points seem to matter.

Can anyone confirm if it is possible to credit the flights you end up booking using a voucher to AAdvantage?

anyone know historically how long the points take to credit?

Yes, that's a very good point. There's probably an optimum voucher value for the number of flights redeemable in a voucher based on constant ticket cost and the resulting additional payment.

Apologies if I was not clear in my previous post but what I meant is when the value of the voucher does not fully cover the costs of the flights (e.g. using a voucher with $10 remaining to purchase a flight for $99). QF's system will happy take your voucher and your $89 but for some strange reason will not process this transaction automatically without some sort of human intervention.

Those bookings will still show up in the MMB section but with a remark to contact the QF call centre to 'redeem the voucher'.

AFAIK, this should not be an issue until it is the residual value of the voucher does not fully cover the cost of a flight. I haven't tried it myself but I guess that one would have trouble modifying their booking/selecting their seats if the 'voucher remark' is not removed from the booking.
