10 QFF Points per $ - Gift Vouchers are back!

Re: QFF points for gift vouchers

It is easier to buy many vouchers and use one per trip than to only use part of the value of a larger denomination voucher. So if you're buying five return trips at $79 per leg (i.e. $158 return) then a $100 voucher per return leg will suffice.

You'll get the same points but using one voucher per booking is easier.
It may be easier to purchase 1 voucher per flight but there is a lot of wastage that way.

I wish I could purchase a $5,000 voucher and call after each return booking to have the gift voucher remarks removed from the new voucher created.

There is vastly more wastage in having to call up to 40 times and spend 5 minutes on the phone training someone about the problem. By comparison I can buy a voucher in about a minute.

Agreed - I have long been a proponent of the KISS principle.

The less I run the risk of having to call the more straight forward things generally are. Basic 1 x $50 voucher per single person booking works best (for me).

Qantas.com happily lists them for me once I bung my FF in ... :D

Re: QFF points for gift vouchers

Qantas well done on this offer again, ensuring loyalty, cash in the bank and of course (as with any gift type cards) unused amounts which are good for QF ;)

I am sure all of us on AFF love this offer for 10QFF points per $1 plus any other credit card points earned.

I will be buying about $7500 of vouchers again this year, as that is my rough spend on QF for next year

VERY HAPPY

Re: QFF points for gift vouchers

Has anybody had any experience purchasing these with the WW EDR card? Does it earn 2pts/dollar? The T&Cs don't seem to specifically include or exclude gift voucher purchases.

I'm also interested in this answer? The T&C's (below) are not absolute either way but I suggest that since I'm not actually booking a flight, nor buying membership it's just the standard 1point per dollar. Thoughts..?
4. In addition to ordinary points, we allocate one bonus point for each whole AUD 1.00 of total value of spend (rounded up or down to the nearest whole dollar value) using your credit card on: (a) Qantas passenger flights with a QF flight number purchased on the Qantas merchant account i.e. directly with Qantas or some travel agents: or (b) Qantas Club or Qantas Frequent Flyer membership joining or annual fees. Excludes purchases from Qantas Freight, Qantas Holidays, Qantas Business Travel, Jetset Travelworld or the Jetstar Group of companies and purchases of Qantas branded products supplied by third parties. We may from time to time vary the Qantas products and services that are eligible to earn bonus points.
I used the WW EDR card last year and got 2 points per dollar spent for the vouchers I purchased. So yes, you will get the bonus points.

Re: QFF points for gift vouchers

I've never bought these vouchers before, but I read earlier in this thread about vouchers being in two or more names. I might be taking a flight where I'm paying for a party of 3. Could I use a voucher I'd bought to pay for all three tickets if it goes ahead? Other travel I have planned is just for myself.

What is a multi-city booking? Is that using the multi-city search facility? Or is it including flights which aren't direct? e.g Brisbane to Uluru

I guess we are all different.

Working on the assumption I need 70 flights @ $79/flight for the coming 12 months

- purchase 70 x $50 vouchers and I receive 35,000 QFF points bonus points
- purchase 10 x $500 vouchers and I receive 50,000 QFF points bonus points

That is a siginificant amount of QFF points. I can call a few times to have remarks removed from the booking.

JohnK, could you please enlighten me as to what exactly are these remarks you're referring to?

When Qantas creates a new voucher from the residual value there are some remarks left behind in some fields on the voucher basically referring to the fact this is a gift voucher.

You can use the voucher to make another booking quite easily but you are not able to maintain the booking. One phone call to Qantas asking them to remove the remarks from 6-7 vouchers and then I view those bookings and selects seats. Some consultants know what you are talking while others learn after the phone call.

Small price to pay.

You can buy a voucher for 3 passengers. The value you set applies to each passenger, eg a $500 voucher for 3 people costs $1500. However, if you only 'might' do this flight I would be very cautious about buying the voucher. Once you have it, you then must use it for 3 people to fly together.

Multi-city means multi city search. Vouchers allow you to select flights (one-way or return) between an origin and destination.

It is more than a few phone calls. I had to call for every new voucher last year. That's up to 60 phone calls in your scenario. I've got better things to do with 5 hours than sitting on the phone to qantas.

You would use a multi-city booking when you have intermediate destinations, e.g. MEL-SYD-BNEand you want specific flights or to stop over in SYD for awhile. Noting of course you can sometimes get these fares for the same price as a direct fare and on QF at least each segment gets minimum points and SCs.

If you want to go from BNE-AYQ then entering those destinations will find the connecting flights no problems. But if you want a specific route then you enter those points.

Do note that you cannot use a voucher for a multi-city booking.

Re: QFF points for gift vouchers

I only had to call for some bookings to have the remarks removed!

15000 points is worth the phone calls if needed

As I said, every time I called to get the comments removed I was on the phone for at least 5 mins, that's over 5 vouchers. Across many 10s of bookings that adds up to a significant chunk of time. Personally I value 5 hours of my time at more than 15000 points. YMMV

Yep just think the time spent posting on here could be spent on the phone getting 15k points

You might enjoy spending time on the phone. I don't, instead I chose to do other things with my time, like post on here.

I will be doing the same as you and just go for the $500 vouchers again, they are also more flexible as you may need to book a flight at some stage which is more than $50

I have no issue calling QFF maybe 10-20 times in a year to get remarks removed. I can easily call when driving, in the lounge, in bed, whenever. It's not that hard to call up and except for the first few times, now I mention that I want remarks removed and that most reps seem to know what they are doing it's done in a matter of minutes

Based on my experience from last year, I seldom need to call Qantas to get the comments removed except for the flight booked using the final remaining balance on the voucher. Other than that, a new voucher is automatically generated and emailed to me after I use the voucher.

I will definitely take advantage of this promotion again this year.

Ah yes that would be it, it was the final vouchers that seemed to be the problem! :D

Thanks. What would happen if I tried to book for 3 people and I only had a voucher I'd bought for a single passenger?
