Bit off topic, but sort of applicable, I was walking around the City of London a few years ago and I couldn't find a bin to deposit my rubbish. I asked a gentleman passing why the lack of bins.

Of course I remembered the significance when he said it was because the IRA used to plant bombs in the bins, so they were all removed, and it really wasn't all that long ago.

Yes, back at the start of 1993 was in London for just over a week. Twice during that time was evacuated from transport hubs due to bomb scares (once at Euston station, once whilst waiting to checkin at LHR). Given that IRA was largely "homegrown" (as many of the people involved were of course from Northern Ireland, part of the UK) the Trump response (visa / admission clamp down) wouldn't work!

I guess what is different now, is that there is less discrimination (more focus on civilian targets than IRA) it is more widespread/definitively linked to one religion in many cases, and we shouldn't underestimate the power today of the internet and social media to spread both the fear of terrorism and the messages of those motivating such acts.

I'm aware of Godwin's law, I've actually discussed it with Godwin on twitter.
Bringing up the naz_s doesn't mean you're wrong when the people you're discussing are actual fascists.
When you combine Bannon's white supremacism with Trump's racist populism and Stephen Miller's "the president's powers are substantial and won't be questioned" you get fascism.

Maybe we could start the new thread after some people on here get some psychological counselling and get on their medication...

Ok maybe as the authorities plan any future strategies/programs for anticipated threats that seem to have a rather strong correlation that i just can't put my finger on... You know those things that may happen now and into the future rather than down memory lane... Just to keep all the hand wringers happy they can also include a suite of measures stretching back for every potential threat/group/problem/religion that has ever existed, the naz_s, the klan, the crusades/inquisitions, the IRA/christian nutbags, the Soviet Union and those lefties/socialists/commies (the ones that killed 60-80 million people last century if we are into using scare words like naz_s and fascists), the Mongols, the Vikings, the Muslims conquering Arabia/North Africa/Spain etc, etc...
