It already has! All the articles I have seen so far talking about VET leaving have mentioned RIC as an option.
Wasn't Hamilton the suggestion last season, or has he signed on to Mercedes to see out his career now?

Ric (potentially) with Leclerc reminds me of Webber with Vettel, it'll just end badly for the Australian :p

I reckon that Hamilton will stay at Mercedes until he beats Schumachers 7 Championships record. ( that’s another two years). I wouldn’t be surprised if he then does one final year at Ferrari before retiring, as his compatriot Nigel Mansell did in 1989/90. Mansell described being asked to drive for Ferrari “ as like a calling from the Pope”.
My money‘s on Sainz and Vettel swapping seats, or simply retiring.

Much as I like the trans-Tasman link for RIC, I am not sure his quest for a WC will be any easier with McLaren.

Its all a bit of a cough shoot at the end of the day landing in the right car at the right time with an engine that doesn't blow up, as I understand it if (and thats a big if) we have a few races this year it really won't be much of a year for car development, and as I understand it the big technical engine and aerodynamic changes to the cars that were supposed to come in 2021 have now been postponed until the 2022 season? If thats the case, the Mercedes dominance will likely extend through to the end of 2021, thus giving Hamilton his 7 WDC's and probably retirement after that, he already looked bored winning everything last year so may look at another form of racing or something else outside racing after that.

We did see some improvement in the Honda power plant last season that may eventually translate to an end of the Mercedes dominance or possibly Ferrari/Red Bull/Renault or McClaren getting their act together after 2021, so most young drivers will look to score a few points and maintain fitness in the 2020 season, then score some points in the 2021 season to position themselves into a competitive car for the 2022 season, but its a huge guessing game as to who will or won't have a good car in 2022. The trouble is that by the end of 2021 most F1 fans will have died of boredom or found another hobby and of course there is the unknown of how many teams will survive and continue in F1.

Excited to see RIC move to McLaren. Of course the prancing horse would have been even better, but continuing to see him down the field in yellow would have just been depressing. Better to take another chance and see if the Merc power can get him a shoey or two.

As for Vettel, well it's a loss of some entertaining dummy-spits I guess. With no F1 on I've been re-watching some past seasons. Danny Ric's Baku win in 2017 was notable for VETs big dummy spit on HAM after he thought he got brake-checked under the safety car. If you've forgotten, VET drove up alongside HAM and rammed him, earning a 10 second stop-go. Yeah, I'll miss that 😂
