2023 Hilton Status Retention

"The right thing"?

Where have these people cheated? Hilton makes them an offer - they fulfil the requirements - but they "haven't done the right thing"?

How about we say "People who earn status through using company funds are cheating, status should only go to those who use their own money towards flights/stays/etc because that's the 'right' way to earn it"?

Sure, it might not be fair that all my work-funded travel is banned from earning points/status, or I might be jealous that your employer allows you to collect points when they pay for travel, but does that mean you're not "earning it the right way"?

Some people probably went out of their way to pay and stay just to requal. Others got it for less. That's annoying for people, end of story

Yep, I can see that. Annoying doesn't mean wrong.
There is a bit that is wrong though - and I agree it's not the fault of the person taking advantage of the offer - It's that it was meant to be an extension after a night's stay for 12 months, not 24 months. This is what frustrates those who spend and stay their way to the same levels.

I pay for all my own hotel stays but I was going to fall about 15 nights short of retaining Diamond so went on a mattress run as I didn’t want to lose Diamond. Had I known they were going to comp everyone I would have spent the money elsewhere.
I would hope at the very least those who earnt status would get another year extension as a token of good will.

Because if I have spent $20-30k doing the right thing and others deliberately don’t do the right thing and end up with the same it’s pretty disappointing and leads me to thinking why should I bother. Those who have earned it the right way are getting nothing and I feel that because of our loyalty we should get an extra year thrown in as a thanks
But you're not annoyed with those in the US who simply just pay for a credit card and get Diamond that way?

I don’t care as long as I’m getting something out of it 🤣
If they want to give out freebies then that’s their choice but they need to look after genuine loyal customers too.
If you retained status last year then I see no harm in giving those customers an extra year or perhaps they can create a higher tier for those that have status by spend similar to what Accor introduced 🤣

Sure you may get annoyed but all these extension will come to an end. Prior to Covid I had earnt diamond status by staying in the properties. I did not stay enough to retain diamond and new I would drop and in the email Hilton sent in early Jan they let me know I was dropping to gold. I was not fussed as the QF/ Accor stitch up sent me straight to platinum so was using that program. Then along came this offer and of course I decided to stay in the Hilton for a night to retain my status. To me this it is no different to QF when they were offering take one flight and retain your status.

That stay one night promotion works. I stayed last Friday and took a look at my account and have been moved back up to diamond.

Is it a 2024 or 2025 status ending date? If it’s another for 2025, I’m considering saving my VA WP upgrade after I fall from Diamond and quickly do an award night instead

Cheers,
Matt.

It doesn't say and I cannot locate something that indicates the year so I am assuming it is to 2024. I was diamond and was informed I would drop to gold but that wasn't going to kick in until the end of March so in mycase nothing has really changed.

Ok, yes impossible to find online or in the app! Looks from an earlier example, upthread, that the status end date is shown on the monthly statement under 'Current Tier' detail. Maybe check that when the next one comes out; You may be surprised!

Cheers,
Matt.

How do you even get these statements in the mail ? I don't remember ever getting one.

Sorry - I meant email statements. I haven't received any for as far back as I can remember.
I get them as well, and the only place I can find where to select it is in the app. I’m using iOS; not sure if it differs for others.

It’s under ‘Account’ > then select the Account tab at top > then in ‘Preferences’ section, select ‘Email Subscriptions’:
