Terminating both Australia-DXB-LHR services at DXB, would I imagine free up 2 A380's which could be used to serve DFW. Terminating QF9/10 but keeping QF 1/2 all the way to LHR would free up 3 A380s'....

I don't believe it has the range?

I reckon SYD-JNB, MEL-HKG and the QF9 part of DXB-LHR will be scrapped and CGK and MNL moved to JQ.

Until 6-12 months down the track when the LHR leg is suddenly "unprofitable" and further cuts ensue!

If the 9/10 between LHR/DXB is dropped, then AJ needs to fall on his sword given the EK tie-up was his baby!

They may as well shut the door on MEL, turn the lights out after QF93 leaves for the day?

Imagine the picture if QF were replacing the 747s with 787s with the new J product, what a different picture. Instead they are putting more in the desert and bringing back ex JQ birds with what can only be described as "warts and all"

Honestly why didn't they develop the new J 2 years ago when the likes of CX etc were rolling out their superior product?

Imagine the Australian flag carrier with no MEL/HKG service.

I have a feeling the last Per-Sin flight is going to go and QF will abandon Per completely.

According to the reports on 3AW, the QF services to JNB are going. No hints as to which other routes will go. Hopefully some of their economising might see the demise of some of their less successful Jetstar partnerships within Aisa, but I fear the target will be more mainline QFi routes as usual...

Qantas responds to rumours and speculation

What a weak response, honestly...

"There are a series of unsubstantiated and unsourced rumours swirling around ahead of our half year results, ranging from estimates on job losses to route changes.

The facts are that Qantas has flagged the need to make tough decisions as part of strengthening our business, which we will outline next Thursday. For our customers, this won’t change our focus on being one of the world’s best airlines.

BACKGROUND

On the specific rumour that Qantas is looking to reduce its services to London, this is inaccurate.

In December, Qantas flagged job cuts of at least 1,000 over the next 12 months in the face of unprecedented pressures in both domestic and international markets. We have also announced plans to cut $2 billion of costs from our business over the next three years, and will provide more detail on this at our half year results."

I was expecting SYD-JNB to go, but when they announced the QF/SA codeshare termination today, I thought if it was going to go, why wouldn't they just wait til next week and then just can it? It may still go, but it doesn't seem logical to not wait a week and turf it.

"Swirling around". Who writes that rubbish?

And "unsourced and unsubstianted". Not "wrong" or "completely baseless" or even "factually incorrect".

In other words, no journalist has contacted Qantas Media [because we're not answering the phones anymore] so they are unsourced and unsubstianted [but not incorrect].

Well this might be good news...

On the specific rumour that Qantas is looking to reduce its services to London, this is inaccurate.

Could still be code share though

I'm starting to think that QF should sell-off most of JQ (perhaps retain a small minority shareholding) like what BA did with GO! and focus on being a premium carrier instead of the dual-brand strategy nonsense.

But then they purchased BMI
