Re: 28° [Wizard] Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas

Like some others was considering getting another 28D card so one could be pre-loaded with cash and the other used for credit purchases. But that ideas out the window. The Citibank credit card being referred to here... is that Citibank Plus? I have a normal Citibusiness Gold Visacard... I wouldn't be using that o/s.

Its the Plus product which has a debit card attached and is very competitive!

Re: 28° [Wizard] Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas

Thanks BCworld.. when travelling in Europe and Hawaii this year I took a pre-loaded 28D which worked well. Of course you have to take the cash out first which is inconvenient. And you have to weigh up "lost" frequent flyer point opportunities compared to say using a Visa. But FF points are not a great deal of use all the time by the time you factor in extra taxes and charges. So yes 28D I'll continue to use o/s for credit purchases. And get a Citibank Debit card for cash withdrawls. It might mean ditching the current Citibusiness Gold which is about to be replaced by Citibank with another one of their cards anyway. Not a real Citibank fan despite being a customer for years. But the debit card sounds good for o/s travelling. And then maybe look for another card with good points earning.

DAMN! I love my 28D! I've been pre-loading it with cash and using it as a debit card overseas for years and never had a problem with it.

Looks like I'll be getting a Citibank debit. Is it considered a CC application?

Good things always come to an end :( The no fee cash advance feature was such a cool thing to us cardholders.

Re: 28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/

It was good whilst it lasted!

Re: 28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/

And I just got Mum signed up to this card two months ago for their recent big trip. Damn.

It's still a good credit card for international transactions (if they use close to mid-market rates), especially overseas merchants where Amex is not accepted.

Deciding now whether to apply for Citibank debit or settle on Velocity Global Wallet / Qantas Cash.

Not much of a decision unless you want to lock in forex, 3% fee is probably less than the spread on the prepaid cards and citibank has no ATM fees in addition to great forex rates.

Dammit, when was that announcement made?

Re: 28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/

Today, effective 1st Jan.

Re: 28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/

Doesn't affect me here

Always use my Amex/Visa when overseas and taking into account the 2 points earned per $ which is roughly 9% return it's still worth paying the FX fee and coughpy exchange rate which works out to about 5% from what you could get with the 28D card.

For cash I'll stick with Travelex and 1 QFF per $1 spent,

I have a Westpac debit card and if you use their partners in the UK Europe and US there is no fee for cash withdrawals - not sure about other places though

You save on the $5 ATM fee, but you still pay the forex commission.

Spewing!

I'm one of those who's going to jump on the Citbank bandwagon.

To be clear, is it this one that allows for fee-free cash withdrawals overseas (at excellent rates, like 28 Degrees) when the account is in credit? Citibank Australia - Rethink your everyday

It's a visa debit card attached to an everyday transaction account...if it has money in it its 'in credit'!

Dammit! Does anyone think that Citibank might introduce fees now too?

Probably, not the first product to change (NAB gold comes to mind) and not the last!
