A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

You would have to buy infant fare of the class travel in cash only. AA does not do infant AA awards. This is one thing QFF is good at: it is 0 miles + taxes and surcharges when booked with adult award ticket.

Thanks.

That would be 10% for infants wouldn't it ?
So if flying on QF metal using AA miles I would buy the fare from QF directly at 10% ?
How about for the 3 year old who gets their own seat ?

Yes 10% fare for infant not taking a seat. If taking a seat you need full miles + taxes regardless of age.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Guys if say there was a current promo would I qualify for it if I didn't already have an account with AA ?
Is there any minimum waiting periods like the 12 day rule with USDM ?

Loving the "hold" function which IMO gives it a unique edge over other FF programs.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Sorry Nizar - to be clear my booking was MEL-DXD-LHR-Venice one way only. 80000 points + $75 taxes, so appears taxes have gone up but mine was only one way as am coming back as part of a QF RTW Award ticket. Still an increase but would have expected $250 at least if I went return.I did book back last Feb or so.

Hmmm I did a search just now for some random dates in Feb 2014 MEL-DXB-LHR-VCE return in F and its coming up with 160k miles and $269.90 per person.
It must have gone up massively ?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Don't think so Nizar- pretty sure I opened an account and bought all in the one day.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

What do the T+C of the programme say?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hi

It looks like my bookings (so far) would have some 1660 SCs for this membership year (mix of QF & AA).

The AA part is needed for WP requal.

The question is: is there any AAdvantage in crediting the later (QF) flights into AA once you get past the WP requal stage ?

If yes, how do you do that: calling up QF to change into AA membership number ?

Thanks

PS: I have nil status with AA

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Can anybody shed some light on how long it takes to transfer points from SPG to AA ?
The folk over at FT reckon they do a "sweep" every Wednesday AM and Sunday AM. Can anybody here confirm this ? Or perhaps just mention how long its been taking ?

The reason I am trying to secure the coveted MEL-LAX in F whenever I can get them for Aug/Sep next year ? I am flexible.
I have zero miles in my account. I would need 72.5k.
So the plan is to hold the flights using the 5 day rule. Then purchase the max (60k) and transfer the rest via SPG.
Was wondering whether I would get the SPG in time - If it is indeed on Wed and Sun then I will. If its no real routine and some people have needed to wait much longer then hmm......

Cheers

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Don't mean to confuse you at all but there is another option if you are purely flying on Qantas. You can also buy miles in Alaska Airlines program and it is 70K miles each way for first class. They are having a 40% bonus on purchased miles until 30 September. You can buy 40K miles and end up with 56K miles and then buy the balance you need in a second transaction.

Just worth considering as AA miles aren't on sale at the moment.

Sorry can't help re transfer time.

Dale.

Thanks for that Dale, great suggestion.
But in that case, why not just buy 50k and end up with 50*1.4 = 70k from the single transaction ?
Is there an annual limit on alaskan airlines ?
Can QF be booked online and is there a 5-day hold function ?

Cheers

Ok ignore that question..... lol

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Sorry no hold feature as far as I know.

Not sure about booking online as just learning about the program myself.

Dale.

Book on aa.com for one-way or return and there is indeed a hold feature.

Not for multi booking though ...

Last time I transferred / converted SPG to AA it happened within 24 hours. I think I imputed the transfer, went to bed & next day sometime when I looked it was there. So this probably fits with the FT advice.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I just transferred some SPG points to AA. Will tell you when I see them in my AA account. 20000SPG will give me 25,000 AA miles with the bonus :)

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Guys I read on previous threads on this forum (I think it was from 2011) that if you buy AA miles during a promo the miles you buy appear in your account instantly but the bonus miles take some time to post (i.e., even upto weeks) - is this still the case ?

Thanks

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

... and I have yet another question !

Are QF award flights in J and F (to A380 destinations) booked using AA miles eligible for chauffeur drive ?

Thanks

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hi,

In terms of the bonus miles I received them within 3 days last time I bought about 6 months ago.

Don't know re Qantas.

Dale.

Anecdotal reports from here and other sources indicate yes, however the rules say it has to be on a QF or EK ticket number to be eligible.

Qantas Chauffeur Drive Terms & Conditions

So technically the answer is no, if you do get it offered then that is an unexpected bonus.
