A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Anecdotal reports from here and other sources indicate yes, however the rules say it has to be on a QF or EK ticket number to be eligible.

Qantas Chauffeur Drive Terms & Conditions

So technically the answer is no, if you do get it offered then that is an unexpected bonus.

So pretty much if it appears as an option under Qantas: My Bookings then you are good to go ?
Is this how it usually gets "offered" if flying a QF award/revenue fare ?

Why wouldn't an award redemption through AA have a QF flight number ?
If I book QF9/10 MEL-LHR in F then why wouldn't that be considered a QF flight number under the terms and conditions ?
Do AA attach their own flight number to it or something like that ?

Cheers

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

... and I have yet another question !

Are QF award flights in J and F (to A380 destinations) booked using AA miles eligible for chauffeur drive ?

Thanks

The 2 times i booked since it started I got the chauffeur drive.

1 - yes
2 - I personally don't know because I've never done it, but presume yes.
FWIW I have some F/J milesAAver AAwards on QF metal to/from the US for next year and the chauffeur drive option is available on MMB (ie yes to your first question). This reflects all other reports from other members with the same type of AAward bookings (ie flight numbers eligible for Chauffeur drive).

My guess is that their system cannot differentiate the difference between a QF/EK ticketed and a non-QF/EK ticketed flight that is eligible for CD and puts them all together as "eligible bookings". I could be wrong, but hey - I'm not complaining

Ticket number, not flight number... the ticket number determines who is the "seller" (the "retailer" you could say), regardless of operating carrier/flight number/codeshare etc.

eg. QF ticket numbers start with 081, EK with 176, AA with 001 etc....

My limited experience is that AA will only offer AAward flights with the flight number of the operating carrier. eg QF94 will only be available as QF94, not AA7356. Again, I could be wrong but that is only what I have observed so far.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Correct, as I have an AA issued RTW ticket and even though flying QF 94 chauffeur not offered....Pity but isnt not a deal breaker:)

What does MMB mean ?

Hmmmm maybe its because chauffeur drive is not offered on RTW tickets in general ?
Or am I wrong ?
Can someone confirm this ?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Chauffeur Drive is available on an RTW ticket as it was available to us last month....my mistake with my previous post as I rechecked and Chauffeur Drive is now available on our arrival into Melbourne on QF 94...so it seems that even though the ticket must be on a Qantas ticket according to the T and C we have been offered it on an AA issued ticket...so all good it seems:)

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

MMB = Manage My Booking

Thanks lol I thought I knew what most of these abbreviations mean after 5 months on this board, but yeh don't think I've seen that one before.
And while we're at it can I have one more please, what does YMMV mean ? It's something I see often and tried to work out but have come up with a blank everytime lol.

Cheers

Have a look here for other abbreviations.

MMB is missing from the list, so can a mod please add it?

Technically it's "Manage Your Booking" but I think we'd rather not talk about our own bookings as someone else's and it's stuck with MMB!

These too.... I am catching up with a nested AA issued RTW in a couple of days time, DXB-LHR in QF J. I have chauffeur drive offered at both ends.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Chauffeur Drive is most definitely offered on RTW tickets....we had it offered for our recent flight on QF 94

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Can anybody shed some light on how long it takes to transfer points from SPG to AA ?
The folk over at FT reckon they do a "sweep" every Wednesday AM and Sunday AM. Can anybody here confirm this ? Or perhaps just mention how long its been taking ?

The reason I am trying to secure the coveted MEL-LAX in F whenever I can get them for Aug/Sep next year ? I am flexible.
I have zero miles in my account. I would need 72.5k.
So the plan is to hold the flights using the 5 day rule. Then purchase the max (60k) and transfer the rest via SPG.
Was wondering whether I would get the SPG in time - If it is indeed on Wed and Sun then I will. If its no real routine and some people have needed to wait much longer then hmm......

Cheers

The points are in my AA account today, & show they posted on 6 Sept. Yesterday I couldn't see updated totals as they were doing their Monthly summaries.

I transferred 20K SPG miles & got the 5K bonus. All are shown as 25000 without any differentiation of bonus.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Qantas / Emirates needs to change their chauffeur drive conditions. Recently flew first class with Emirates and connected to a business class flight to Hobart. You don't even get given a taxi voucher in Hobart even though if my journey had ended in Melbourne we would have got the chauffeur drive service. A taxi voucher at a minimum would be a nice touch.

Dale.

Hmmm, I thought a connecting flight as part of the long-haul itinerary did include chauffeur drive.

Edit: Found the relevant part of the QF chauffeur drive T&Cs:

Connect from domestic and trans-Tasman flights
First or Business customers connecting between a domestic or trans-Tasman flight from Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch to an eligible Qantas international flight will also be eligible for complimentary Chauffeur Drive transfers.

It seems it is to a DXB flight, not from.

En contraire, indeed it does:

Qantas Chauffeur Drive Terms & Conditions
5. Chauffeur Drive is also available in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Perth, Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington to passengers travelling on Qantas operated flights that connect to or from an eligible Qantas international flight above (and travelling in First or Business on the eligible international flight). Customers do not need to be travelling in Business on the domestic or trans-Tasman flight. The Domestic or trans-Tasman flight must be in the same booking as the eligible international flight.
