A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Yeah, I would ring AA and find out what is going on if there is no ticket number despite it being 'ticketed'.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Whats the general consensus on the best way to reliably check very last minute CX award availability for AA redemptions given:
1. BA often shows phantom availability;
2. JAL wont let you search less than 4 days in advance; and
3. QF dont show all CX flights?

Not too much you can do... BA/QF combo is a good starting point, then call to confirm availability.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

It says "ticketed" on the aa.com website and when i select the print version there is no e-ticket visable. I brought this ticket on wednesday so if nothing changes shortly i will contact AA in australia to ask them and add a infant to the booking. I wonder if its cheaper to call AA to add the infant or cx.
It needs to show "Ticketed - 《date》".

Just call the AA Sydney number between 9:30am-4pm Melbourne time. Should be answered within 5mins.
Outside of these times expect a wait time of 20-40+ mins especially in the evening after 10pm or in the morning between 8-9am. In my experience.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I just use a fake address in the US that happens to be an actual previous address of mine, but with a US postcode (this street address actually exists there). I find this works quite well as AA does not check the billing address against the card at all. I've done about 10 redemptions this way and still going strong. Never had to call the Australian number to-date.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Doesn't award nexus just pull from the 3 sources I've listed problems with above? Therefore it may also either show phantom or not show flights that are actually available?

I can't speak from experience but the claim by Awardnexus is:
"Award Nexus has been designed from-the-ground-up to be a High-Quality Award Search Engine. Instead of the typical free but lower-quality searches done by airline sites or phone agents, usage in Award Nexus is measured by points and you are charged a small fee for your searches. In return, searches in Award Nexus, on average, return 20% more results than a standard search."
It does also offer search of multiple sites with a single search and assistance from the alert tool.

Bah, still waiting for my CX flights to ticket, has been six days now 'on request'. If nothing by Friday will ring again.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I would have chased up a few days ago. Why wait ?

Apparently AA is having some issues ATM and it's taking a few days to get things ticketed. People seem to be experiencing delays of around 5 days. But - that time lag worries me for 'on hold' seats with partner airlines.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Finally ticketed around 0330 CST this morning. I did ring about 40 hours ago and was told it was still in the ticketing queue and my credit card and details all looked fine; explained that I was wanting to make a follow on booking with another airline out of SIN to get me home as well as that I was worried the partner wouldn't hold the seat much long, rep said she would message ticketing but little else she herself could do.

So have it confirmed for JFK-xYVR-HKG in CX F, then CX J to SIN 10 hours later. Have a few hours in HKG itself and time to sample the various lounges.... and prepare myself for the 3K back to DRW!

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Currently have a USDM booking to Europe depart and return BNE, have now found better flights routing BNE via SYD, if I can change these flights is there any payment penalty?.

If your ticket is now governed by AA rules, this change will be FOC.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Just a heads up for those with Commbank credit cards that are booking 2 tickets on the same PNR. In June I booked 2 tickets from US-EU. The miles were deducted but two payments of the same amount were charged simultaneously which led to the bank declining one of them. I got an email from AA saying that my credit didn't go through so I called AA and asked them to check.

The guy on the phone said everything was fine I didn't think much of it until today when I was reading a thread on AFF and I decided to check the receipt under the PNR. And indeed, the miles for two tickets were taken out of my account but only taxes for one were charged. I had to call today to get it fixed but just a PSA!

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

My cx tickets have now been issued and I can see the ticket numbers at the bottom. I called CX and added the infant $600aud for hkg-Dxb in J. I also grubbed two F ey AUH-SYD and two J A380 and have also ticketed . Only problem is again infant charges of $1100 in J or $1600 in F which is a lot on a poor mans wage

We thought we had lost you, we need a laugh!

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I booked MH J for my partner a couple of days ago and ticketed after a bit over 36 hours and I just booked JL F today and ticketed in about 6 hours. Ticketing seems good now.
