Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

My cx tickets have now been issued and I can see the ticket numbers at the bottom. I called CX and added the infant $600aud for hkg-Dxb in J. I also grubbed two F ey AUH-SYD and two J A380 and have also ticketed . Only problem is again infant charges of $1100 in J or $1600 in F which is a lot on a poor mans wage

You seem to constantly travel the world in luxury on your poor mans wage- im sure you can afford it!

Hi Shanye2233 and others,

Does anyone know how to go about adding infants to an AA award booking on EY.
My sister and her husband have two young kids, both under 2 at the time of travel, and both the adults in F, how much will I have to pay to add the infants ?
Once the flights have been ticketed, this be done via calling AA or calling EY ?

Shanye2233 it seems called the operating carrier - is this just for CX though ? Or is that the standard procedure regardless of the airline ?
Is EY able to add infants to a PNR that was ticketed by AA ?

And how much will it cost ?
I heard its 10% of the full revenue fare for infants ? is that correct ?
The route in question is AUH-SIN and they on the return and the return revenue fare is almost bang on A$7k so that means A$700 per infant ?

Would appreciate thoughts and feedback from anyone who has had experience with this.

Thanks

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Has anyone recently had luck getting SYD-MEL-PER on one AAward ticket?

In their booking engine it used to give options via MEL or BNE (even seen ADL before) but now it seems to only show direct, even when there is same day availability individually on SYD-MEL and MEL-PER?

I might try calling up and I'll report back.

Shouldnt be a problem

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

It's not entirely relevant to this thread but it may help some.

I've been looking for flights from Singapore to Stockholm on points. Qantas offered multiple options on Finnair; American didn't. Qantas had no seats on any BA flights; American offered multiple. Same dates. I had always thought (and hoped) that all oneworld airlines had the same availability to everyone else, with the possible exception of holding more for their own elites, but more searches over the past few months leave me to think there are differences.

I think sometimes it might just be a system thing and for some reason some just slip through and don't show. A few months ago I saw an American JFK-MAN flight online with AA and BA but not on QF. I rang up QF and said it wasn't online but the availability existed when searching other airlines. They were able to book it over the phone no questions asked (and with no phone fee).

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

If I apply an SWU for a flight from Cancun to New York-JFK but then that flight is cancelled and I'm re-routed Cancun-Philadelphia-LaGuardia and the SWU only sticks for the second flight, is it reasonable to expect the SWU to be returned to me?

Similarly, how do SWUs work on multi-segment flights where the latter flight or flights are much shorter? In the above example, if I'd tried to apply an SWU CUN-PHL-LGA but it wasn't available on the first and longer leg, would AA still look to apply it on the shorter leg if available?

From Systemwide upgrades
How does waitlisting work on American Airlines flights if I'm traveling on a one-way trip that has multiple flight segments?

If a seat in the upgraded cabin is not available at the time of booking:
AAdvantage Reservations will add you to the wait list for the longest flight in your itinerary. This allows us to ensure your upgrade is confirmed for your preferred flight first, before trying to confirm shorter connecting flights
Once your longest flight is upgraded, we'll attempt to confirm or waitlist any shorter connecting flights.
Depending on when your long-haul flight is confirmed, there could be some scenarios where we're unable to automatically add you to the standby list for connecting flights. If this happens, please ask the gate agent to add you to the upgrade standby list manually and your request date/time will be your check-in time.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

hi guys, simple question (hopefully) - for award ticket reservations made through AA for travel on partner airlines (CX), is there a need to reissue/reconfirm tickets for minor scheduling changes - just timing changes without change of flight number and not significant enough to affect subsequent connections.
thanks!

You should confirm any changes with AA as necessary/required.

However - if you're concerned whether this will trigger a re-pricing? No. Involuntary changes will not generally open the award to re-pricing.

Can i do this via email or do I need to call them (dreading the latter)

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Very interesting. Thank you.

I used two SWUs to upgrade my parents Cancun to JFK. The flight was cancelled and they were re-routed Cancun-Philly-LaGuardia. To Philly they flew in Coach but were in First to LGA. AA is refusing to return the SWUs as they flew in F on that 47 minute sector to LGA. I've argued (i) I never applied it to a flight to or from Philly or LGA and (ii) the distance between Philly and LGA is just 6% of the distance between Cancun and JFK which is what I did apply it to.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I think 47 is overstating it...last time I did it it was 23! Worth the argument...

No email from AA.I have just had one on our JAL award done with AA miles.
Quite frankly I dont think notifying AA is necessary when it is the same flight number etc.Only necessary if it made a connection unworkable.

yeah i didn't hear from AA. awardwallet picked up the change. it was only a timing schedule change of 30mins.

when i logged in to Qantas (1 segment on QF) website, it was already reflecting the new time for the CX flight. AA website also showed the new time with a "please note there has been a schedule change to your itinerary" (or something like that).

should i still call AA to be sure or would that be a waste of time?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

No point ringing as they already know about the change. As long as you know there is no problem.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

so i didn't ring them but sent an email instead
heard back within a couple of hours
In regards to your request, both reservations have been reissued, and you will be receiving an email confirmation for the change. Please refer to the same Record locators xx_xx_

a few hours later i got the new ticket number for 1 of the tickets (we booked separately with different accounts).
it's now about 36 hours since the first ticket was reissued and the 2nd ticket still says "on request" when i check on AA.

is this usual for AA? i even tried calling but all i got was "just wait"

Ticket (re)issuing can take time.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hope everyone's weekend is going fantastically. I thought this seemed like an appropriate thread for the following 2 questions:

Question 1:
I have an AAdvantage award booked for myself and the missus on CX metal -DOH-HKG-BNE. I will be flying into DOH from FRA on a seperate QR booking. The etickets issued for DOH-HKG-BNE have the AA ticket number started with 00 instead of a CX eticket which begins with 160. I managed to get the CX reservation number so I can select seats etc - however the CX website won't allow me to enter secure passenger data as you also need a CX ticket number or Marco Polo Club # to unlock that feature. I've entered such data through the AA website on my booking, but not sure if that will all transfer across to CX. I've heard this can cause difficulties when attempting to use OLCI, which can sometime hit a wall when the CX IT system does not recognise the AA eticket attached to your reservation. If I am unable to use OLCI and am required to check in at the airport - I am correct in assuming I will need to wait for a CX counter to open in DOH a few hours before my flight, or would I be able to obtain these boarding passess in FRA . I'm only asking because I have a 8 hours layover in DOH and I'd like to use the Al Mourjan lounge, but obviously I need to produce a BP to do so.

Question 2:

Are AA awards always taxed per segment? I was charged $57p.p for DOH-HKG and again $57p.p for HKG-BNE. I thought it would have been $57 p.p per award? I also was given seperate etickets for the two segments. The first email confirmation was for both passengers DOH-BNE and had 2 eticket numbers - following this 2 further email confirmations arrived, 1 for each pax DOH-HKG-BNE, with different eticket numbers. The correct mileage was deducted (45,000p.p for a Middle East-South Pacific MileSAAver award).

If you wait until 48 hours prior to departure of the CX flight you can complete on-line check-in with the PNR and enter all advance passenger info as required.

I've never looked to enter that information prior to OLCI, so don't know if any work-around on the CX system, although that information on the AA system, inn your booking, should suffice.

I'm not sure why there are separate ticket numbers! Should be a single award (ME-South Pacific which allows a transit in Asia2)
