AAdvantage award Devaluation - Bookings from Mar 22nd 2016

Going to book JL F & F in mid November. Going to take a risk and assume there are no problems working from London (work for Telstra in our international division based in HK).

I've convinced a friend to stay on with me, so additional 4 weeks of accommodation will be fine.

Cheers for your advice. I'll update when i get a response (i'm supposed to call the same supervisor on friday)

Someone told me before that working for Telstra isn't such a bad thing these days and they aren't necessarily opposed to working remotely. (I know others that still have open wounds; anyway, working for Telstra is not a topic up for discussion here).

Good luck. The main thing you want out of this is a ticket that you can use at the old prices so you can at least lock that in. Once you're in that position, you can wait to try and improve, but the main thing is that you have something to go on.

Had a call back from the UK supervisor today. I've got to say Vincent has been really good on taking ownership of it despite not being able to get me to return with my friends.

I am now confirmed ticketed for 80,000 for:

ZRH-HEL (AY J)
HEL-CDG (AY J)
CDG-NRT (JL F)
NRT-SYD (JL F)
SYD-BNE (QF J)

It is an additional 3 weeks in Europe :-O

I agree Telstra is great with working remotely.

Problem is i'm finishing my secondment on Oct 14 ! And due to start new team Oct 17. Now i'm first 3 weeks in new team whilst I'm overseas in a different timezone !

Not going to be ideal.

If you have an existing award booking and want to change dates do you pay the additional AAdvantage miles as per new award chart?

To summarise the FT thread

Route change will be ok.

Change of award type.

FULL AA to Oneworld or Partner
ONEWORLD to Full AA or Full Partner
PARTNER to oneworld or Full AA

All those will cost more points.

You should be able to change between oneworld carriers at will.

Your origin and destination are locked in.

I have JL J award for 2 in Nov which I booked last year and I want to move the date a few days back or forward but no availability so thought I'd buy some more points and upgrade to F which seems pretty open for our dates. Just spoke with AA and to do this they would cancel the old award ticket, redeposit points, refund taxes, book new award seats, charge new taxes and charge USD$175 on top of that - does this sound right?

I've used JL website to find availability - I presumed that was the best place to look - but there has been mention in this forum to use BA for best availability??

Partially wrong.

Normally it will be a charge but because you are upgrade J to F - the $175 charge will be waived. However, they will cancel the old award, redeposit the miles, refund taxes etc. If you stayed with the same award level - i.e. J- then it would be just a change of the existing booking and you'd escape all the rigmarole

JL shows availability for its own members, what is available for partner airlines may be different. BA and QF can both be used to verify

Thanks sergeyvzn.
I cannot find the fee waiver policy on the AA website - only an old forum post saying that it is not charged but this was before the new changes came in last month.
Does anyone know if the fee waiver still applies?

I can tell -:) that what happened to me 2 weeks ago when I changed J to F on an EY flight from AUH to MEL

Thanks again, will give it a shot.

good luck. In my case I rang the Fiji call centre and it was all done and over with in about 5 mins. The points got redeposited and deducted for the new fare class instantly and the new taxes (same as the old ones) got charged straight away as well but the original taxes took about 2 weeks to credit

Fiji call centre? I am fairly new to using AA - I am phoning AUS number but connecting in the US (I think)

when you ring the Australian number you call goes to the regional call centre that happens to be in Fiji

Fiji. And they are very good.
Over the years quite a few people have bagged the Aust (Fiji) call centre. My experience is that whilst they do not know everything they go out of their way to resolve issues and sort out what they do not know. In other words I think they are great.

they are on average better than the new AA US call centre, mainly due to the fact that after the US Airways/AA merger the US call centre is full of former USDM idiots

I think that's a bit harsh for our friends at USDM. While they might not have always been up on the exact rules and geography, they allowed us some of the best routings ever under awards. We've never had it so good.
