May not be the right place to ask but it is related still so i'll throw it out there.

I applied for the Virgin Money Flyer card and have been approved today. However i only noticed today that NAB is likely to have approval by June 1st to buy Virgin Money. I had a NAB card up until a few months ago though, is that likely to affect getting the signup or bonus points? I would be disappointed if so! Partly my fault for not checking though..
I very much doubt it. If they try and pull that on you i would be going to AFCA.

Even if NAB phase out Virgin money cards eventually you have an agreement at the date you get the card and associated conditions required to get the bonus.

That's what i thought might be the case, though it's good to hear others agree. I'll keep AFCA in mind if it gets to that point. Thanks! :)

I personally think NAB's acquisition which was only communicated today will have no affect whatsoever on your offer. If there was, I'm sure it would have been communicated and heck, the offer is still up there for new participants so if it was an issue it would have been stopped by now.

Yeah that makes sense! There was a message on the supporting documents screen last night which is what had me a bit worried, but sounds like it will be okay. This was the part of the message which i wasn't sure on:

Subject to regulatory approval and if your application is approved, the product you are applying for will be issued by NAB from the date of completion of the transaction, which is expected to be 1 June 2022.

That's because they need to let you know who your financial contract is with and that it will change in the future, which is good governance. Rather than keeping you in the dark and you finding out after it happens.

But it doesn't alter the terms right now which apply.

Good to know. Thanks all!

I applied yesterday and 2.5 hours later they sent an email saying i was approved. Good to see Citibank's approval and due dilligence is as loose as ever. Only had to provide drivers licence number and two payslips. Nothing at all requested on loans or other credit cards which i declared in the application.
I guess you can't use the card after activation through Samsung Pay or whatever, and have to wait for the physical card to arrive?

Picked the 40k bonus points but haven't had the e-mail confirmation just yet...

The way I've tried to identify a government transaction is that if you don't have a choice of supplier, like rates and water, then it probably is a government transaction.

So for things like insurance, I don't think they are government transactions.

Are there any flaws to this theory?
You can also possibly mask transaction by using payment service like sniip .

How have you been able to add a card to your phone before receiving the physical card? Where did you get the card number from other than from the physical card?

But yes the Virgin card works on Samsung Pay but not on Google Pay.

Not the OP, but I when I recently applied for a Westpac velocity card: couple of hours after I applied I was approved and the card showed up in my Westpac app. I was able to generate a one time digital card but more importantly was able to add the card to Apple Pay (and non-union Mexican equivalents) straight away. I had spent the required spend to earn the bonus points before the physical card arrived.

Yes I was trying to remember which card I did this with a while ago. Pretty sure it was an altitude black.

I applied for Amex Platinum. Got an email asking for payslips and then nothing. How long does it usually take to hear if approved?

Does the bonus still apply if you signed up for the bonus offer with velocity and then apply for the AMEX card through a friends referral link?

Yes, that was my recollection of Westpac also, and I thought a few other providers did the same where you can at least get your details and start online processing before the physical card and if I recall correctly somehow add to to Google Pay.

I signed up to the offer on 5th May, then got approved for a CC last week. I never received an email from Velocity. I've called the contact center and they can't get an email to me. I did take a screenshot of the page where it confirms the choice I made. Do you think this will be enough if they don't automatically join the dots?

Just go through the selection process again. If it worked it should show your requested selection.

We're not sure how the email ties into things, given it is part of the terms, but at least if you can see the selection is logged then it means you've done everything you could, and the email may have been sent but lost in junk email or somewhere else. You can then take a screenshot showing your selection is logged as a just in case. As it's been all this time since 5th May, they should have finished their back end processing by now as well.

There is also this neat answer from the FAQs that I think should allay some fears of those who never got their selection email:

“I forgot to make my exclusive benefit choice, what can I do?

If you’ve submitted an application for a Velocity Points Earning credit card during the campaign period, are successful and meet the criteria for the selected card, Velocity will contact you and provide you with the opportunity to select one of the exclusive benefits.”
