Advice on champagne

just because it's a common mistake doesn't make it right :)

however... now that people know they will no doubt want to ask for it correctly :)

After a bottle or two we can pretty much attempt to speak French despite a near 45 year gap from the classroom.

You know, I was a bit surprised that champagne wasn't any cheaper in Paris. At least not Veuve, Mumm etc. I think with DMs, it's hard to get a better price...

Everywhere I looked it was cheaper by at least 5-10%.
I got a single bottle DP 2003 for about $20 cheaper than the half dozen price here. $100 cheaper than the single bottle price here, depending on where you shop!

Sorry for wasting space - certainly not worth persuing:

Veuve Clicquot Brut NV
-
Price for 1 case (6 Botts): $315 delivered - Dan’s Price: $327.90

Dom Perignon 2004 - Price for 1 case: $185 delivered - Dan’s Price: $189

Krug Grand Cuvee NV - Price for 1 case: $195 delivered - Dan’s Price: $198.95

Veuve Clicquot La Grand Dame - Price for 1 case: $220 delivered - Dan’s Price: $230

Cruiser - Combining the discount and cash-back at Dan's put those Dan's prices ahead (based on "click and collect").

I am hanging out for the Spring Races sales, which must be almost upon us. IIRC there was a great one just after Melbourne Cup Day to clear the floor stock.

Anyone got a good place to pick up high end champers in London? Went to selfridges and a couple of stores and prices are more expensive than Per!

I may well have said this before, but being EK Gold exposes me to Veuve and Moet. Makes Qantas look penny pinching. I do prefer Moet to Veuve, as it's a little bit drier. But that's just me.

Also, I fly all kinds of airlines in C/F and taste various champagnes. Haven't had a bad one so far, but I'm only talking about champagne (the real stuff).

Sainsbury's or Tesco "extra" could be an option... But you don't know how they have been stored.

Majestic wine have a large number of stores as well. Google them.

Prices are hardly surprising with the 30% WET and then the GST on top of that.

As opposed to approx 33% taxes in the UK for the bottle? (Wine tax and then 20% VAT on top).

Taxes don't explain the whole story. ...

I just picked up a couple of bottles in Reims! Gosh this place is amazing. Comtes de Champagne 2004 is 115 euros!

Vatalie Taittinger is hot!
