Are we talking about bogans of old, or new-age bogans?

Good question. I have no idea is there such a thing as a new age bogan? Is this a bogan that is smart enough to realise that if they wear a collarless tshirt the bouncers will not chase them out of the valley.

I was actually going to say that the bogan/white trash ratio in the Valley was higher than that in CBD.

Pockets of said high ratio establishments are finding their way into the CBD; perhaps in some cases the said bogans/white trash manifest themselves as suits!

Gah....someone give me classy... that's all I want...

Melbourne Hotel is supposed to be good, but I've never been there so I don't know.

<snip> I'm yet to find a bar in the CBD that I actually like .
CBD:
More upmarket: Belgian beer cafe?
Less so: Pig and Whistle?

Southbank: Melbourne Hotel is reasonable but there are better around. How about some of the more upmarket places at southbank? Graystone? Plough Inn? Fifth Element?

Hey guys --- you are getting too off topic here.

Back to the Late October function, you can discuss Bogans in the Playground if you must!

As in "CUB"s that have been working on the mines? (cashed up bogans) ;)

Anyone wearing Ed Hardy anything, wearing clothing with logos that I can read from the other side of the street, no ability to comprehend an opinion different to their own and a generally low capacity for alcohol intake with a consequent high capacity for boorish/violent behaviour after a few beers.

:D

To pull this back into line, we're still having a debate as to where we shall drink before dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.

Preferably a place where the bogan factor is low is a good idea, according to most of the thread. Whether this means to blow off the Valley's candidates is undecided.

I should also mention that some thought was given to Petrie Terrace / Caxton Street, although we dismissed these fairly quickly. Although, I think there might be a bar at the new Barracks complex on Petrie Terrace - worth consideration? (Not a long walk from Roma St Station)

Well..... I'm gonna put my 2 cents worth in......

SNAG'S CUB'S DINK'S.... Whatever.... As for me..... I'm more of a Caring, Understanding, Nineties, Type.....

That being said.....

I eagerly await some final plans for BNE.... Unlike some.... In order for Myself and +1 to attend... We are up for around $6k (2 x J r/t MEL - BNE + Accom)

I am very keen to attend but more info please!! :)

You might have missed this post before bogan-gate erupted, its very comprehensive in terms of the plans !

No... I read all this... It was the "not decided" which preceded everything which had me concerned.... Have I missed something??

There also seems to be a lot of conjecture as to various areas which are and are not ideal. I'm not particularly familiar with BNE so I am having to rely on others.

I would prefer a great lunch on Sunday. I am to golf.... what Tiger Wood's bimbo's are to discretion!!

Well I don't think I've every heard of the Plough Inn being considered upmarket. Especially knowing that my brother and his mates frequented that place.

This is my pick for classy or upmarket
The Pav Bar - Brisbane Bar and Dining - Stamford Plaza Brisbane Hotel

I also enjoyed the Sebel and Citigate King George Square bar before my cousins wedding reception.

The Transcontinental used to be pretty good. Not sure what its like now
Transcontinental Hotel : Clubs in City, Brisbane

There was a pretty cool bar in the Empire building next to the Super Deluxe. No idea if that still exists.

Just wanted to put it out there that I don't really believe in labels

Ditto here....or a late brunch to allow for a bit of a sleep in on Sunday...

Unfortunately I am going to have to drop down to a scratching at this point, I can't get decent flights ex-ASP getting to and from without cutting into too much work time.

As I told anat0l earlier today I will probably be there.

I will leave the venue discourse to the experts, but I am definetly interested in golf on Sunday morning.

In QF634 (22/10)
Out QF631 (24/10

James St Bistro is another dinner option and they'll take large bookings. Easy walk to The Valley from there.
Indeed, Spoons in James Street Markets might be an option.

I like the idea of the CityCat after a meal, might be able to finally use my free Go card.

Questions that need thought:
1. Japanese restaurant and set menus: Which restaurant (Kabuki at the Stamford Plaza Brisbane Hotel, Sono at Portside Wharf at Hamilton, or Sono at the Queen Street Mall) and which set menu at the selected restaurant?
2. Pre dinner drinks, Friday. How will we be travelling from the pre dinner drinks venue to Vapiano?
3. Pre dinner drinks, Saturday.

If anything, my thoughts for the pre dinner drinks and Japanese restaurant on Saturday would be to use the Exchange Hotel for the drinks and Kabuki for the restaurant due to their being in easy walking distance of each other as they are merely one cityblock apart.

I think the organisers are doing a great job given the type of people they are trying to please.

I regret to inform that I am now going to be Bronze/Highly Unlikely for most events.

I will be in Brisbane that weekend and if anyone wants to have a drink on Friday or Saturday (or any other time) then you know where to find me.

I will still be playing Golf on the Sunday and we are still looking into a booking at Brisbane Golf Club. Waiting for MAX_1 to get confirmation. Hopefully will have an update at Brisbane drinks next week.
