I may be forced into making a choice for that weekend (and the weekend before if that was/is chosen). :(

Perhaps we need another poll.

The weekend after would suit me as well....

Overuled, AFF standing orders as published in hansard require the mere mention of a poll by any member to result in one being created, the ayes have it :D:D

I have merged them as your points and input were good, especially re the long weekend, which some may see as an advantage to those dates as there might be less pressure on hotel prices.

Cool, thanks.

I also revised my post a bit. 7-9 probably isn't a show stopper for me, and in actual fact could be a good opportunity to get cheap hotels and book things like restaurants.

Only if we can pronounce it properly - not the toffee nosed Canberran way

Repeat after me: MAAH-nuh-ka.

I did say it as "Ma-NOO-ka" when I first moved here. It didn't take long for me to be corrected :)

I've been frequenting Dobinsons on Bunda Street in my regular trips to Canberra.

Dobinsons is also dangerous. It's about a 5 minute walk from the office on Northbourne, so sometimes some colleagues and I indulge when we're feeling naughty.

I've stayed at the Diamant Hotel a couple of times before. Nice decor, sleek hotel, very soothing.

I haven't stayed there, but a few people I know who have stayed there have described the decor as... interesting :)

I'm actually thinking of moving into the new apartment building next door (The Apartments : NewActon Canberra) so I can finish renovating my house (I got sick of living in a construction zone, so still have half the house to go). There's a lot of new stuff opening in NewActon.

Mmm, must go do some work. I still have stuff to finish off before I leave for the airport at around 4 :)

Shaun Ewing! That does not seem nearly enough time in the Lounge!

See you tonight. Safe travel.

See you tonight. Safe travel.

I'll schedule some more time in if I finish up early. I haven't been in "The Lounge" before, so it'll be interesting.

See you around 6! :)

I voted 21/23, the weekends that won't work for me are the 14/16 and 28/30 (although I could do a Sat. only on 15th)

So, in order for me:

Equal:
  • Oct 21-23
  • [-]Sep 30-Oct 2[/-]AFL GF Oct 1, NRL GF Oct 2
  • Oct 7-9
Limited
  • October 14-16: Last week of Floriade, Parliament ends on the 13th so flights out of CBR will be limited but flying in should be fine.
No Go
  • Oct 28-30
  • Sep 30-Oct 2

I suspect that the weekend of 21st - 23rd will clash for me again. I'll post when I have a real answer.
I just realised I cannot make 21-23 October as well.

At the moment 14-16 October and 28-30 October are both OK for me.

My second pick would be the long weekend as the flights will be cheap, however that is Bathurst weekend.....

Re: AFF Gathering # 5 in CBR - what dates

Yes Oct 3 is Labour Day here.

And Oct 10 (whilst not exactly the start of October, I think that was the public holiday alluded to in an early post - #4 - by Ewing re possible dates)

ACT 2011 public holidays include:
3 October is Labour Day
10 October is Family and Community Day.

Re: AFF Gathering # 5 in CBR - what dates

While October 1 to 3 is a holiday also in WA it's complicated by the NRL Grand Final and the Second AFL grand final :oops:. Oct 8 to 10 is a little better as it means less pressure on Sydney flights for those that may need to travel from or via SYD, cheaper hotel rooms in Canberra for the holiday however Bathurst is on which is not to far a drive away, then again that could be a plus for some as well.
