And a good bump it is as I just booked my flights.

7 Oct BNE-CBR arrive around 5:00pm, standard Y.
9 Oct CBR-SYD-BNE depart 4:55pm on a JASA, someone had to grab it so I got it. :p;)

Now to figure out where to stay.

Edit:Crowne Plaza Hotel
1 BINARA STREET
CANBERRA, 2601
AUSTRALIA
$240.00 a night not cheap, but will check closer to time as this is the flexible rate.

Edit again,
Entertainment rate $216.00 a night, maybe I should have booked that one instead.
Did you look at the F&F rate?

Well I got to qualify for platinum some how and if I do it with freebies I will never make it.

You could join Priority Privilege (for $289) and use one of the BOGO's (which will save you $240). Almost paid for the membership!

Am a maybe for this -- waiting to see what happens with work. Is anyone staying at the Diamant Hotel?

My plan was to sleep in my friend Zoe's spare room but she turned the mattress into a pole dancing crash mat so I need a new plan.

I'm still voting to look at the War Memorial and the Sardine Cans at the National Gallery.

I was actually looking at staying there, the rates seemed reasonable (now I’ve said that I’m sure they’ll shoot up) and the interiors looked good.

Here are some piccies of a room inside the Diamant Hotel, Canberra.

Quite relaxing yet simple designs and colours. I didn't quite like the hallways which were very dark and lit only with some orange lamps (it was almost like being in a cave, well, sort of).

Note that I stayed there just over 2 years ago now. Things may have changed....

Diamante looks nice, but $205 per night is a bit much to justify.
How bad is the Rydges? Seems a bit tired looking.
Also when are we going to start coorindating flights?

Probably when we know for sure if there’s a double SC promotion on or not, so roughly by the end of this month.

I’m still deciding if I’ll book Y there, or a JASA through SYD.

Hotelclub.com.au has the Diamant for $154 pn (7-9/10).

I'm likely to be driving down from SYD, so I'll see you all down there unless my car breaks down (yes very old Alfa).

Some thoughts, would people be prepared to pay if I hired a bus and drove it around the various places on Saturday and Sunday? I was thinking of a 24 seater and splitting the costs between the passengers.

This would also include dropping people back at their hotels after the Saturday dinner which means you could drink without worrying.

CBR has very poor public transport and it is near impossible to get around without driving especially if you want to visit anywhere not in the immediate city centre (aka Civic).

If the interest is there I will start getting quotes to provide an indicative guide to costs.

While I won't be attending, I would most certainly say go ahead and get some quotes - as per OzFest last year it's something that would definitely get the thumbs up.

A generous offer to drive Hvr, and I for one would certainly be happy to pay my share of a shared transport vehicle.

Yes I am interested, at least get some quotes.

20-24 seat bus is a good size, I think AFF2 in Adelaide the group hired a 12 seat bus, I think there were 8 of them.

So maybe check the different sizes.

We didn't hire a bus, we had a B*s ;)
IIRC it was a Toyota Tarago.

I'm happy to get some quotes through work as we get good rates.. I've also got a HR licence so can drive too.

I stayed at the Diamant last year and it was rather nice.. rooms were a good size and you are right about the hallways.

The breakfast is only so-so though.. I like my fry up and they don't have that there.
